Toyota rim size Numbers....Misleading????

Just another silly thread about rims?

I learned a lot here on this silly subject. What started out to be a question about rim size, turned out to be much more than that. Cuz it's really about who we are when all is said and done!

I've gotten soooo much support here on this thread, from some of the greatest ppl imaginable. And just when I thought that it might be time to pack it in and move on, the "True team members" stepped up, took over, and expressed their real feelings, about who are the true assets around here, and who are the true as*hol*s around here!

For instance. Sometimes people start off doing really great work at a thing, then receive props wrt their great efforts, then poke their chests out, riding the wave of glory on the merrits of yesteryear; but then sometimes they forget to be humble along the way, considering others and their feelings.

I'm not hurt or injured, cuz I have a healthy attitude and self esteem. But there are some folks around here who might be crushed when attacked. So you say: "That's not my problem!"...no? Then if not our problem, then whose??

I know people (men) like to be macho, and display BIG GIANT BALLS, pretending not to feel or emote. But I would much rather be supportive towards others; this should be a place where folks can come to unwind, maybe escape from "life and the wife" just for a few (no disrespect meant ladies), you know what I mean, Lol.

Now, maybe we can get back to the business of tires, fog lights, lift kits, led's, yada yada yada...!

Back to the original topic....The more I learn, the more I realize that the guys at these little tire shops, etc., aren't always super-knowledgable. Take everything they say with a grain of salt and when in doubt consult some of the true experts on the forum (harper, etc). Furthermore, when you find a good mechanic, treat him well! They are not all created equal.

About a week ago, there were a couple of ppl who had come here to visit the forum for the 1'st time. They had a couple of questions which they posted, only to be met by sarcasm and arrogance.

But they were humble and forgiving, but they, as visitors should NEVER have been treated that way to begin with because you don't know what they may be going through, or why they're visiting us.

I agree with what you have said.

Lately I have been seeing a lot of necessary sarcasm towards the new members. Even though some of the posts are repeats and have been discussed plenty of times before, its much easier to gently guide someone in the right direction than to take so much time and energy to talk S H I T.

My motto is either provide assistance or keep reading on. Its just not healthy for the community. The more people start turning away from the website due to the unwelcoming tone, the less members, less revenue for the website. I'm sure the "owners" won't be happy about that.

I have learned quite a bit from this forum and continue to learn. Mostly from people that have HELPED lol, such as harper 1engineer and duc.. All great guys and many others. Some other members have a wealth of knowledge, but instead of sharing, they feel it's superior to talk down on the less knowledgeable folks.

Lets keep it light and try to help each other, that's the point of this forum after all isn't it? :bigok:

I decided that I would spend a little time at the "Firestone" service center, not too far away from my town today.

Just needed to end this on-going topic once and for all! From what I understand, this is a "Cold Case" that refuses to stay closed, again and again.

I really don't like technical issues remaining unresolved, especially when "Trouble-shooting" is what I do for a living; I know some of you know how frustrating that can be.

I thought that it would save time, if I just removed the spare tire from underneath the cargo bed, rather than lift & pull a recently balanced new tire off the truck.

I took some photos so we would all have the same, un-arguable facts,

If your guess was 7 inches....you were right! :cry2:

Notice how the spare is yellow? That seems to be a protective coating; And I would imagine that environment underneath is extremely harsh.

Here's the odd thing. Before I got started, I asked the store manager to print out the rim specs for me (according to Firestones distribution data).

And according to firestone, the 2012 Toyota 4Runner LE, measures 20 x 7.5 inches in width; Here's their system data chart; hope you can see it, he could not print that page...would be like printing your desktop image.

Thanks for taking the time to do this. As an IT Engineer, I also don't like things like this left unresolved. We can now move on to something else. . Well done.
