Looking for CB Radio and Antenna Mount Ideas/Pictures

Out of curiousity, is there a reason they don't make a sort of All-In-One unit?

The member on page 1 has 4 headunits! I would think they could incorporate at least a few of those into one unit with today's technology! I mean we have all-in-one units for HD/FM/AM?/XM that's managing multiple frequencies, how hard should it be to use something for say CB, UFH, ect?

With compact solid state transistors and computerization I would think they could just the multiple inputs/outputs easily? Granted you'd still have to use separate antennae, but why can't it route into one unit?

This question has bothered me since I started reading up for the HAM test, I'm sure if I knew my info better I would know the answer.

edit - So I googled it just now, this is what I came up with.

FCC regs prohibit it. Most HF HAMs can be modded to tx/rx on CB frequencies but there are large FCC fines associated with those mods.

Well that sucks! Is there any laws or any way to say mount the individual units in the back, run a cable to a single interface? Kind of like a mini car-puter that some people run in modded cars? I like keeping things looking clean and like it was designed that way.
 
I no longer use CB since most all of my wheeling buddies use Ham. But when I did, it was a Cobra 75 with a Wilson Little Wil Magnetic mount on the roof. The box for the Cobra was was wired with a cigarette lighter plug and sat under the seat. Everything was easily removed for when I didn't need it and no holes drilled anywhere.

My current setup is a Yaesu FTM-350AR. The head unit is mounted in the cup holder slot. It can be removed in less then 10 seconds if I'm parked in a location where I'm concerned about theft. No holes drilled in the car for this set up either.

The mic is wired under the console up to where the ashtray used to be.

The speaker is a Yaesu MLS-200 dual speaker, mounted under the headrest.

The radio chassis is mounted in the rear storage compartment next to the aux battery power buss.

I use a 16" Comet SBB1NMO "rubber duckie" for everyday use. Makes it easier to get in and out of the garage.

When I hit the trails I use a Comet SBB5NMO antenna.

I hate..Hate..HATE using mag a mag mount for the GMRS/MURS antenna, but between the roof rack and moon roof, there was no more real estate to drill a hole. I looked closely at the the clearance of the moon roof and sheet metal of the roof when the it was open....but read some other posts here and decided against chancing it.

I know the mounting of the ATAS, hamstick, and CB sntennas are not optimal, but you have to consider other aspects as well - like overall size of the whip. I could put the ATAS on the roof somehow, but I did not want the $400 antenna wacking every remotely low hanging branch around here. I have worked Europe, Canada, and the Caribbean easily (from NY) and I like being able to look at it autotune from my rearview mirror.

I have found the 4Runner to be a great vehicle for radio installations, with all kinds of options.

You guys definitly have some awsome set ups for location on the radios. I might have to relocate mine from the back seat magazine holder to the front in the dash if it will fit. Got a connex 4600 turbo 10 meter set up on a 11 meter frequencys. Still set up with the 10 meter chanles also, have a wilson roof top mount installed on the roof near the back, can just remove when needed and put the cap on. Oh, haven't had a problem with fcc with this radio.
 
i got rid of my stock am/fm anntina and used half of a aluminum bar mount and screwed it right into the sheet metal worked out great i have a fire stick mounted and it looks dang near stock i love it and i get pretty good distance out of it for it not sticking up to high i can get pics if u need them sorry i dont have any

It's worked out great for me. I don't have anything bad to say about it. Solid mount, no damage to the sheet metal and no holes drilled. Several of my friends use the same mount and are also happy with it.

Dawg4runer, that mount is awesome! Do you have pic of the inside and how you routed the wire? I assume through the loom up there but how did you get it inside the rubber seal to stop water from leaking in? Just curious if you could take a pic of the routing with the hatch open from the inside.

Seth, I routed the antenna wire down the side of the hatch opening, under the tail lamp assembly, then looped it up through the bottom of the tail lamp assembly. The wire is about the same thickness as a 16 gauge wire. The gasket from the tail lamp assembly provides a good water seal. The pics will explain it better. The wire inside the corrugated loom going into the rubber grommet is from the LED light bar. The other wire is my for my license plate light.

Here is my setup, Kenwood TM D710 VHF/UHF Transceiver. The antenna is a Diamond K400 lip mount with Comet "rubber ducky" antenna, like Dawg4runner's. There are no holes drilled since I'm using a suction cup mount.

 
How do you keep your suction cup stuck? I tried to mount something there with a suction cup and it kept falling every few days.

You just have to be real accurate on the edges and make sure the suction doesn't touch it or you won't get a good seal. So far it has not fallen off. I took it to a lot of bumpy places off road and it stayed in place. Mine did however come with a 3M circular double sided mounting tape if I decide to make it more permanent, but haven't used it yet. But so far so good, it hasn't moved.

-Heavy duty antenna spring

No complaints yet! Hopefully it will stay that way!
