DIY MOD: How to replace seat bottoms & Are left/right seat bottoms interchangable?
Well here goes another thread on how to / can you swap left and right seat bottoms out on your T4R?
My drivers seat bottom is getting more worn out. Especially the bottom left butt cheek area. Due to sliding in and out of the truck. My nissan armada started doing this after years of service.
Had a few hours to kill yesterday and decided to do another DIY to give back to T4R!
Probably also answer a question wondered by many but asked by none.
Can a seat bottom from the passenger side work on a drivers side?
YES.
Here is why it can and differences i found
*Seat cushions are the same foam
*Seat covers are different because on the drivers side it will have cut outs for lumbar and the knob thingy. passenger side will not.
*passenger side foam has seat sensor in it.
*drivers side usually has seat heaters on top and bottom and passenger side only has warmers on top(seat sensor on bottom)
So here is what happens when you move the driver to the passenger side.
-the holes that originally were originally on the outside of the drivers seat now after it gets moved to the passenger side becomes the inside. So it never gets seen at all.
Why move it from one side to the other? few good reasons.
*passenger side is much easier to find in junk yards now adays
*driver side usually has tons of wear and tear
*swap the coushin from another used t4r with same colors from a passenger seat and have two virtually new seats.
*seat foam is worn out on the left butt cheek area
*ripped, cracked driver seat bottom and you can seem to find a good replacement
*all the good drivers side seat bottoms get snatched up quick on ebay, and the passenger side goes for real cheap!
those are only a few reasons. None the less, it can be done. I have confirmed it.
Now you want to do it? Here's how.
99.9% of us do not have the hog ring tool or own hog rings. I do but i hate using it. So i came up with a easier solution
These are 7" zipties with a 50lb rating. I use zipties because, are readily available. hog ring clips are not. also i do heated seats at the same time so i dont like the seat element to keep moving all over the place.
Here is the reason why it prompter this repair/diy

You need a set of needle nose pliers to pull out the hog rings. trick is to get a hold of the head and twist them to make the ring open up
Here is the passenger side coushing above the 3 zipties is the seat pressure switch. the two grey round thin plastic thing stuck on the foam
another shot of the pasenger side. take the zip ties and loop it around the metal bar that is inside the seat cushion and around the bar inside the seat skin. this next picture shows it setup loosely before i lined it up and pulled the zipties tight.
like in this next picture. then all you do issnip off the extra and go ahead and finish off the rest.
here is the side getting ready to go back in
Here is the driver side installed into the passenger side. this is the picture of the inside of the seat that is on the center console side. no one will ever see these holes. no one will know except you that they are there. You saved a ton of money by doing this and since you read this thread. you are one step of all the others that passed up on that cheap passenger seat cushion on ebay!!
here is the outside of the passenger seat with the drivers seat cushion! Looks good huh? i took the cover back off to readjust the wrinkles after the picture was take.
