My parents took my daughter to Ocean City for the week so I drove to Glens Falls, had lunch with some old friends, then kayaked Lake George.
While in Glens Falls, I saw, from the cafe window, a guy pull up behind the 4Runner in a lifted, armored Grand Cherokee, and proceed to walk all around the 4Runner, taking pictures. Meanwhile, I'm trying to have this serious conversation with my friends about a paper I'm writing, and this guy is touching the Gobi rack, inspecting the CB antenna, looking at my kayak. It was hilarious. Once I left the cafe, the guy found me as I was getting in and said how much he loved my 4Runner and how badly he wanted one.
Then, I head to Lake George. Weather is exceptional, warm... I paddle 4 miles, swim off an island, then check the radar. There is an ominous looking cell northwest of me, so I jump in the kayak again and head back. I ended up paddling through whitecaps the entire time with a really stiff headwind. My boat is really agile and fast but if you are not actively paddling it tips over pretty easily in water like that. By the time I got back to the launch I was beat. I can get my kayak on my roof alone, but was dreading doing it now...
Just as I pull the 4Runner down to get the boat, a guy pulls up, said he owned the 4Runner that was parked next to mine, then asked if he could help me load my kayak on the roof. Made my day! Then he asked why I didn't just get a Supercharger for it. Then he bragged about his and encouraged me to take pictures of it. I'm not kidding; here's the proof.

Winthrop R&B Festival
This past weekend it was finally time to once again hitch up the trailer, jump on Highway 20, and head over Washington Pass to the sunny side of the Cascade Mountains and the tourist trap that is Winthrop, Washington, this time for the 28th annual Winthrop R&B Festival. And once again, it did not disappoint. Far from it. Highlights were Tim "Too Slim" Langford and the Taildraggers ("Straight Whiskey Blues with a Southern Rock Beer Chaser"), the Northwest's own inimitable Duffy Bishop with Lady A and Polly O'Keary singing backup, and the buttkickingest southern-rock / blues-rock / rock-rock woman guitarist/singer we've ever seen, Samantha Fish. And not least of all: Elvin Bishop doing what he's been doing for the past 45+ years. It was 3 days of livin' the dream - hot dogs for breakfast and no tooth brushes (at least not till Monday morning).
Only one electro-mechanical issue: When stopped at the Mazama Bakery, while the Boss was in getting coffee and muffins for the trip home, puffs of smoke started drifting out of the top of the dashboard-mounted monitor for the trailer rear view camera. Figured you get what you pay for - 28 bucks on Amazon for the 5" monitor in this case. Got home and took it apart and found 3 legs and part of a wing left over from a comprehensively toasted mosquito that had squeezed through the air vents on the top and got bar-b-qued between 2 SMD's. Never knew that combusted mosquitoes smell just like burning electrical insulation.
Good news and an interesting discovery: The ScanGauge never went over 215 degrees for the tranny fluid. On some of the long steady grades I found that keeping it in S3 kept the fluid cooler than if it had been in S4. It felt like maybe the pump circulating the fluid through the radiator and external cooler was driven by the input side of the tranny rather than the output side - ergo higher pump rpm's, ergo higher volume of fluid through the radiator and cooler, ergo cooler temps. Anyone know for sure how the fluid is circulated?

Another small but handy upgrade - bolted a stainless bottle opener to my CBI swing out.

Doing some fabrication in the garage... rigged up some extensions for the mounting brackets to get an idea of what I need to do to make it more solid. I gave it a good shake but I don't trust it yet.

It's been entertaining, depressing, and enlightening at the same time. I'm batting 1000 on threads I've gotten fed up with and reposted forum rules getting deleted though, thank goodness.
Took the long way home, a few extra minutes for a chance of spotting deer, the kids love it. No deer today, but still relaxing!
Ordered a set of the black TRD pro wheels.
Ordered some Bilstein 6112s.
Found out the Bilstein 6150s are backordered until August/September.
About to pull the trigger on some BFG KO2s but debating 265 vs 275 and whether to add rear coils or still with stock for now for just a mild front lift.
Starting build thread soon.
