DDM Tuning Saber LED for DRL / High

Guys,

I have to say I've used both suppliers before and can't speak "higher" then one over the other...

Myself being in "wholesale" sales... Sometime your paying for a name, and sometimes not...

I've used DDM HID kits now for the last 6yrs in various rigs and never had an issue with any of them. The customer service has been top notch...

That said when it came time to put HID's in the runner I opted to try TRS and the Morimoto's to see what they where all about...

Both work great and honestly I can't tell you if one is "better" then the other.... I'm sure someone could argue ballast, color temp ect between the two. But both brands have performed flawless.

I'm curious also to see what TRS has to offer and if the kit provides similar or different results.

Ok guys/gals,

This is what I have since receiving my DDM Tuner Saber LED's today.

First, here is a photo of some Morimoto XB LED's I had previously installed on my T4R and was not quite satisfied with the performance, but that is not why I am referencing them here.
The reason I am referencing them is because they were oriented to fit in the 9005 socket and have the LED's at the 12 & 6 O'clock positions. The LED's could not be moved on the fixture, I will explain later.

I received the Sabers and found them to have a set screw between the socket tabs and the fan. These can fit H10, 9005 & 9006 so I assume one may need to adjust which direction the LED's face or oriented depending upon the reflector.
When loosening the Allen screw and turning the fan while holding the socket tabs, one can face the LED's however one chooses. (Remember I said I would explain later

)

So, one LED fixture was set to be at 12 & 6 O'clock and the other one was set to be at 9 & 3 O'clock.....
Being that the previous Morimoto's were made for 9005 sockets and faced 12 & 6 O'clock, I rotated the passenger side Saber fixture to that position and locked the Allen screw down.

Install complete after zip tying the small ballast for the LED's.

Color and intensity is superb IMHO. Output exceeds the 9011 MOD High Beam!
Mind numbing, mosquito singeing bright which a dusting of the suns rays!

In the following photos, I disabled the LOW BEAMS so they would not come on and ran a comparison.
Excuse the grainy photos taken from my iPhone.

Now you've got me thinking of the rotation and led direction would in fact change the beam pattern in our reflectors....

Hummnnnn....

Told ya the high beam was impressive ;-)

I was told by DDM in Cali, if you call them directly and place an order, they ship directly from there.
If you use the online ordering, the orders are fulfilled in China, that is why they take so long to receive.

LMZ PLATINUM 45W ULTRA OUTPUT LED 9005's, they recommend the following:

When I installed mine I was also curious how to the orientation but assumed since the reflector shape on our 5th gens seems to be more spread left and right I'd want the LED's to face as such at 9 and 3...

Now if we had more circular or cup shaped reflectors it prob wouldn't matter at all...

I'm sticking with mine at 9 and 3.

Have you been running them as DRL also?

I have yet to try them on the back roads, yet.
I'm in agreement on the possible best orientation being 9/3. (TBD)

My DRL's are disabled.... link in my Sig.

What a Difference!

What a difference the orientation of the LED's made in my housings!

Thanks [MENTION=107788]Trail-AMMO[/MENTION], you had it correct from the start.

After turning my LED's to 9 / 3 O'clock position, they throw light forward considerably farther down the road and still get the flood that high beams should throw.
This has got to be one of the best lighting upgrades, save the LED LIGHT BAR!
Glad Trail-AMMO had his turned in this manner and glad I ran across the VLED's description of how to face the LED's!

I suggest anyone that installs these, turn them to this 9 / 3 o'clock position to achieve maximum forward light output from your LED's.

Pretty dang amazing how fast the LED technology is moving isn't it? 2 diodes in each "bulb" I swear it's HID LED with a ballast.

The other night we had a skunk in our back yard and my go to surefire LED on the bed side and it was acting like it needed new batteries..(strobe). So into the safe I go, and pull out a pistol mounted surefire (LED) that I bought maybe around early 2000's... At the time I remember how bright that was, but after using it to spot light that skunk man o man.... We have come along ways.

What are your thoughts as for DRLs. I see the hyperflash, but it's not that noticeable. Debating on disabling DRLs though.
Haven't gotten to use high beams yet but plan on testing tonight. So far I'm loving the brightness from what I'm could tell and the color temperature
