What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

It appears as though you are missing 4 of your bumper mounting bolts!
It's a 96, I could put bolts in but there's nothing to bolt to. Haven't decided whether to weld newer or homemade brackets on, or leave it, or what. Am open to ideas. :)

The new bumper looks great! How do you like the red?
Thanks!
Red is not a usual choice for me but it looks good as one little accent surrounded by the black and chrome. Definitely would not like it touching the blue. I did make sure to get a blue-red rather than an orange-red.
One thing I didn't think about when I chose it on a bright and sunny day- once the sun goes down it disappears! In that respect either white or lime green would be the better choice.

Finally got my summer doors done.

New OME 861's.....

Nice. If I remember correctly you don't have a rear swingout currently. I'm getting one but want to get an idea of how high the 861's put a non bumpered rig. Could you get some photo's and some hub to fender numbers for me when you get a chance. Thanks man.

Bought my first Runner a few weeks ago and have been working on it steadily. its a 97 SR5.
so this weekend - rear axle seal, brake shoes, brake flex hoses, sway bar bushings, spark plugs and wires, oil and filter, PCV valve and grommet, air filter. cleaned all the windows ( couldn't see through them ).

tonight going to pick up a used windshield washer jug and 3 locks. two of my locks are seized and the jug leaks.

277500km on it, engine purrs. only real bad spot on the truck is a hole in the drivers side rear bumper corner. for Eastern Ontario ( Canada ), that's pretty good.

Not today, but last week I went over to my local Pull-A-Part in search of a hitch. I saw on their website they had one so I hoped I could get it off. Sure enough, I did and walked out only paying $25. HA much better than $200 at Uhaul.

Did you have a hitch already that rusted out? If not, how was the job of mounting a trailer hitch to a frame that didn't have one previously?

Did some OCD preventative maintenance. My lower radiator hose was who knows how old and felt thin. Before anything ruptured, I decided to replace the thermostat, hose and coolant.

Dealer wanted just under $60 for a damn thermostat and gasket. Found one locally with gasket and radiator hose for $30 something.

Clocked the thermostat valve at 6 pm instead of 12 and truck is now running 14 degree's cooler after burping the system and sitting in my garage running for 20 minutes. Even when it's 94 degree's outside.

Hedge postmortem. Took about 300 pounds of my dumb Laurel hedges down to the transfer station. It's not all fun and games. LOL.

I did find out that my vehicle weighed just under 5000 lb without my spare tire on. I imagine that'll change once I get my rear swing out that is due here Wednesday from 4X Innovations.

I got my Sonoran Steel rear body mounts in the mail yesterday. Woot! Now I just need to order my 861s and figure out what route I wasn't to go for painting the bumper.

Today was epic. I took the often talked about, seldom run, trail from Big Pine to Coyote Flat. There's a lot of aura surrounding this thing. Buddies have said, "Don't even try" "It's only doable on Rhinos" "It used to connect but not anymore" and my favorite "Just call me when you get stuck"

I started at about 1:00PM on the 15 mile drive to Big Pine. Filled up and got out the High Sierra SUV Trails The East Side by Roger Mitchell. He has some directions to a place he calls Glacier View. It's pretty much the Warren Bench Trail. He stops his journeys at a lookout 10.2 miles in.

That first 10 miles is all low range steep loose and rocky. Class II my ass. When I arrived at his "Glacier View" it was indeed a great view of the Palisades. I could see Sugarloaf not more than 2 miles in the distance. That was where I could pick up Coyote Flat.

Right past his turn around I saw a sign that I have never seen in the Sierra before. It said "Most Difficult. Modified 4x4 and experienced drivers only" Perfect. Past the sign was some serious terrain. Tight turns, very small clearances between obstacles and big, big. rocks. I was solo and did something I never do. I walked the first 200 yards of the trail.

It was bad. Not bad enough to stop me from committing but bad enough that I knew there could be no room for error. Luckily it was downhill and I knew gravity would be an asset here. I spotted my line and committed it to memory. All rocks on the passengers side would be blind so I would use rocks on the drivers side to keep me lined up, hopefully.

I started up the rig and dropped in. It was white knuckle time. Sliders took some hits. Tires tried to grab anything to help me. Blood pressure went up and then it was done. Or so I thought.

After a nice little 300 yards or so of not stressing I see the final obstacle. I know it's the final one because right after it there is a perfectly flat meadow. I stop and walk it. It's not long but man it's gnarly. One minute later my rigs in that meadow. On all 4 tires even.

From there it was 1.6 miles to pick up the Coyote Flat trail and home to Bishop. The loop is 30 miles of dirt from Big Pine to Bishop for those interested in doing it. As usual I forgot to take photo's of all but a few spots. If anyone wants to run this thing let me know. I'd really like some company next time. lol

Wish we had roads like that up here. Looks amazing!

Red Rigid A-Series currently 6 pods with 2 more on the way for the front and rear

Also bedlined the wheel wells and polished the frame after chipping off all the cracked undercoating

Should have done this a long time ago :dammit:
