Replacement fuel pump
So I'm going to take the jump and replace my fuel pump. It's a job with two purposes. One is to see if it fixes my hard start issue and also as preventative maintenance. I have some extended trips into the wilderness planed this year and having it go out on the trail doesn't sound like fun.
So I could go with a stock type replacement. The Toyota one is $300+.
This is a Denso 96 1996 Toyota 4Runner Fuel Pump Mounting Kit - Fuel Delivery - Denso - PartsGeek And since Denso makes a lot of Toyota parts, it's probably as good as the OE.
This is another option
Buy Airtex Electric Fuel Pump E8213 at Advance Auto Parts
OR, do I upgrade to a pump that could handle a 7th injector (for a future SC)?
Anyone have a model recommendation?
If I don't need the flow of the bigger pump, will it either hurt the pump or something else?

I'm curious to see if it helps. Starting our 4runner is always an adventure.

The Walbro 190LPH is the one that comes with the URD 7th kit.
Its $99 all by itself at URD. Underdog Racing Development
I have had mine in for a few months, no issues yet. I have never heard of anyone having issues with the walbro pumps.

Walbro's are great. I had the 255, read some stuff saying it may be too large for my application, and "downgraded" to the 190.
Running the larger pump, when you don't need it, should not hurt it at all.

After a long day of wheeling, if I stand right by the fuel door, I can BARELY hear it buzzing. Other than that, no.

I am going to have to say quite the opposite... I can hear mine quite loudly from the drivers seat when I am stopped. I listen to music about 50% of the time I am driving, if I have music going, I cannot hear the pump.
The noise is the worst when fuel levels are low, of course.

If this fixes your problem Gerdo, then I'll follow suit. I've been following the other thread you started a while back and posted a pic of the inspection plate location yesterday to hopefully help out.

I was going to suggest Walbro, but I see 4-ripcord has already pointed it out. I love using the Walbro 255LPH on all my other Turbo'd applications. Great Pump for the money.

What regulates the flow from the fuel pump? Would having a larger fuel pump cause the engine to run rich?

Larger fuel pump shouldn't affect anything... only so much fuel can get thru the injectors at one time, also regulated by what the ECU and probably also the throttle control to match the air intake depending on conditions.
Ill be watching this thread, I dont remember ever doing my fuel pump or filter. Probably should do that soon. Gerdo, you want me to guineau pig my 4runner for you? Ill gladly get the larger fuel pump and filter if you help me change it. I honestly dont think I could make it all the way though. Gas fumes give me headaches quick... Probably why I havent touched my fuel system and Im at 220k

Gerdo,
Make sure to wear a nice breathing apparatus and take some pics as well.
I would say OEM, but since the others have had no problem with the Walbro(s), it seems as if you will be OK.

It all depends on the pressure regulator and return lines. Running a 255 on certain vehicles can cause it to run rich at low load conditions where you aren't using enough fuel, and the regulator or lines can not flow enough to keep the pressure down to what it should be. This is often the case on vehicles that either don't have the variable voltage pump or have had this rewired to achieve better voltage at the pump than the stock wiring can provide.
I've never had a Walboro fail, but I have had some that made the car longer to start do to the internal check valve allowing bleed back when they are off. They are always more noticeable than a stock pump, but usually if you are in the pursuit of HP you have compromised so much of your quite stock vehicle that a little fuel pump whine is a non issue.
If you want to stick with stock quiet, and gain extra flow, I would look into the MKIV Supra Pump, or possibly a GTR, RX7 or GTO/3000GT model. They won't have quite the head room that a 255 has but will be quite and certainly capable of handling a supercharger 4runners power output. I haven't priced any of these in recent years so they could be un available or super expensive by now. Here is a good older article on some of these options out there Stealth 316 - Fuel Pump Upgrade Guide
