CBI OffRoad

Mounted my new bumper several weeks ago.

Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App

From the weight, I began to sag around 1/4" so I got those 10mm spacers from ToyTech and added them yesterday..

So as you can see... I'm changing from the "murdered" look to somewhat of a two tone with this gun metal gray. I'm thinking of using Monstaliner on my rocker panels to color match my rear bumper. I just asked my oldest daughter if I should change the color of my rear wind deflector from black to gray....

She says no, but she doesn't like the gray color anyway. So that leaves me looking for opinions.... What do you guys think? I want some gray on it, but don't want to go overboard. In the long run, I'll have the rocker panels and new front bumper color matching my rear bumper. I'll have rock sliders which I'll keep black.

Yes or No regarding my wind deflector?

That's a pretty awesome rig you got. I'm slowly murdering out my 4Runner. Just retrofittted my headlights and I'm considering painting them and tinting the corners like yours. Personally, I'd keep the black wind deflector to tone down your theme. My suggestion, use gun metal Plastidip on the deflector to test the look. If you like it, do the final paint. If not, you can rip the plastic coating off. Man I wish I had a use for a similar roof rack and rear bumper. Overall, I think your 4Runner looks great.

First off, Many thanks! I built my lights from a kit from the The Retrofit Source online: headlight upgrades for all applications

Photobucket

My corners and blinkers are coated with VHT Nightshade. It's held up great over the years. Even did my Amber Lightforce covers with it. I love those, and getting ready to put them back on, I think (I have yellow on now).

Thanks for your opinion! That's two for keeping it black!

First off sweet rig. Love your retrofit and the whole thing looks sick. On the topic of gray and black. If it were me, I would do the front & back bumpers, rock sliders, and skids that gray color. That would look pretty badass IMO. Once that was all done I would look at it and see if adding the gray deflector would be overkill or not. Also if you do it and hate it you can repaint it pretty easy. Mine was gray (fading not paint) and I just pulled it off and bedlined in no time at all.

Thanks everyone for the comments. It looks like I'll keep the deflector black for now. I like that... Less work on my part. I have too many other repairs to do right now. Yesterday when I added those rear spacers, I busted both end links (and they're only a year old!) Anyway, I found Chris on the 5th Gen Forum who just made some for them, and I contacted him.

Heavy Duty Rear Sway Bar Links

I'm working with him to make me a set for the 3rd Gen. After that, when I change over to winter tires, I have my front axals to change out. Then Monstaliner the Rocker panels, Might repaint my current front bumper to match, just because... I'm also thinking about some LED's right under the headlights... I'm currently thinking about moving the blinkers up to my corner lights, and then the LED's would be driving lights... Not sure, just started thinking about it...

Anyway, again thanks for the comments!

Washed the truck today, road trip, sun is out! Hope to have pics. As for your lights, if you want fog, I would say mount as low as possible. Extra Driving lights... Upper grill area is nice.

And Thanks!!

My original bumpers were sanded to roughen up the chrome and then did two coats of Rhinoliner (as instructed, rolled on). But that was so rough I actually had bloody knuckles several times after washing it. So after a year, I painted (with a brush) two coats of Duplicolor bed liner on it. That was a great combination. The Duplicolor smoothed out the Rhinoliner and it's stayed glossy for several years.

I honestly don't know if the Duplicolor would stay on the chrome as well, maybe, I have no idea. Maybe someone else knows... But I love how mine came out how I did it.

Here's an old pic of the front. That's the closest pic I could find of the bumper.

Remounted Scangauge

Small project, easy to do.

When I bought my Scangauge I used a piece of 1/4 round trim and double sided tape to mount it. That was a temp setup that became long term because it worked great!. But lately the tape was getting weak and it was time to redo it. I also am getting an idea of adding a second Scangauge and wanted to make it look clean.

Old setup:

ScanGauge in '99 4Runner

New Setup:

Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App

Steps:

Take Back off Scangauge

Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App

Drilled two holes and secure 8x32 machine screws with nuts to the back.

Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App

Assembled again

Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App

Oh yeah... Note finger in above pic. That was using the proper tool (just poor quality to trim the length of the screws...

Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App

Anyway, back to the story...

Removed the vertical directors from the vent

Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App

Ok class, do you know where these came from? These are the clips from our headlights. I kept them from my old headlights. I knew I would use them for something!

Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App

Drilled a hole for the screw and test fitted all together.

Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App

Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App

Drilled a hole in the vent "cone" for the cable to run through. Put the cone back on the back of the vent after plugging the cable into the back of the scangauge. Everything else snapped back into place!

Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App

So now when I get my other Scangauge I will do the same to the other vent (or maybe below this one). Most likely over the other vent....
