Switching hoods:Transferring washer fluid tubing/connections without tearing stuff up

I already did some searches and did not find any details about removing the washer fluid tubing and connectors.

My sport hood is probably going to arrive at the downtown Bryan Greyhound Station towards the end of this week. The only time I will probably be able to pick it up and switch hoods is during my lunch break. There is an auto mechanic two blocks from the station that works on my 4Runner from time to time, so most likely I will have him help me during my one hour lunch break.

I know this should be incredibly easy, but it doesn't exactly look that way when I was under the hood earlier this afternoon. I know that I can probably just yank out the washer fluid line and connections, but I'm trying to do this without tearing anything up. My factory hood is in very good condition and I would like to keep it that way if possible for whoever buys it.

It doesn't look like the plastic tabs holding the heat shield are replacable. I read that they are plastic so that in the event of an engine fire the tabs will melt causing the heat shield to drop on top of the engine and possibly smothering the fire.

2nd Photo: How does the tube and the tab/clip come off here without breaking?

3rd & 4th Photos: How do these nozzel connections come out? I gently pulled on them a little bit but there was no movement. I wasn't close enough and the light was bad, so I'm not sure exactly how these are connected.

After these three connections are loose will the tube just pull out from underneath the heat shield?

I'm trying to find out from someone who has done this before. I like the guys at this garage, but I know that they will just yank everything out if they can't figure out how to properly remove it in two minutes.

dude its easy. your single washer line on the left (passenger side)

the hose pulls off the plastic part. on both sides. take that off. bolts on the hood and off she comes.


as far as the clips on the washer nozzle on the hood idk, play with it after the hood is off.

To remove the washer nozzles you need to take a flat blade (screwdriver or putty knife) and pry underneath on the front and back. There are little clips that need to be compressed and then the come right off. You can wrap the blade with some tape or something if you want to protect the hood. As shoot said you need to remove the hoses by simply pulling on them.

I didn't transfer the heat sheild as mine was brittle and flailing apart.

For the washer nozzles you need to compress the clips and they come out the top of the hood. You can replace them with the nozzles of a 4th gen and you get three spray jets instead of just two with the stock ones. This is what I did. I can get the part number for you if you want it.

Thanks for the replies. I have a heat shield on my new hood and am trying to keep the heat shield intact on my current hood for the new owner.

On the new hood do I have to feed the tubing underneath the heat shield with a coat hanger or something to get it into position to connect? I'm assuming that I'll just have to remove the remnants of the tubing you see below on my new hood. They probably just cut it off when they removed the hood from the wrecked vehicle.

I think once you have the new hood and you are doing the actual swap, you will see how easy this really is.

I like to pull my hood off anytime I do significant engine work, takes about 5 minutes by myself, a single hose simply disconnects on my OEM sport hood. I feel you're definitely over thinking this one.

I understand that it should be easy, but I would rather "overthink" this than have some guys at the garage who don't speak much english start yanking on things because they can't figure it out in 2 minutes. I'm going to be in a rush anyways because I have one hour to pick up my hood from Greyhound and get it installed at the garage. The good thing about this garage is that they always have 2 or 3 guys waiting there to help you (never a wait) and the prices they quote me for work are always much lower than I am expecting.

So I ordered the 4th gen washer nozzles from my local Toyota dealer (Atkinson Toyota) and they were $26 each - I like the idea of an upgrade, but not at that price! I ordered these, but I'm not going to pick them up if they are priced that high.

Update:

Just called Toyota of Dallas and they have the same part for $13.87. Looks like I'm not going to be doing any business with my local Toyota dealer. This is one of 5 parts that Atkinson was 30% to 90% higher on. Do people not price check auto parts? As a Toyota dealership How do they get away with this?

Wow, that's ridiculous. I paid like $13 a piece at an online Toyota dealer. They accidentally shipped me three instead of the two I ordered so I ended up getting a free one as well.
