Ryan's 3rd Gen Build

Hey everyone, I have read the forums for awhile but have never really posted anything, I originally bought my 2000 4runner about a year ago from a dealership in Minneapolis for $2800. It was not in the best of shape but it was the camping vehicle I have been looking for!

After driving it off the lot had to cut out some of the carpet under the gas pedal so I would press it down all the way, I also adjusted the throttle cable.. there was a lot of play! On the way home the steering wheel was shaking so a quick balance of the wheels and tires fixed that problem.

Anyway here it is about 30 mins after purchase.

My thoughts were to get the vehicle running well then to start modding, I ended up doing a lot of routine maintenance, everything from changing oil to installing new wiper blades. I wanted to install a lift and big tires, but the carpet was not fit for my 4runner and stunk badly so that had to be changed. I then decided to slow down and make the vehicle comfortable before doing mods.

How the 4runner sits right now.

Mods

Interior
New Carpet
Alpine R series Component speakers in front
Apline E series rear speakers
Boyo rearview mirror with lcd, temp, compass
Led gauge light swap
USB charger in dash

Exterior
Satoshi Grill mod
Harley Davidson Whip Antenna for Radio

Lighting
Yellow LED lights
Rigid LED pods mounted as ditch lights using CBI brackets

Suspension

Bilstein front 24-261425
Toytec-Eibach front coil
Bilstein Rear 24-100144
OME Rear Coil

Wheels and Tires
GoodYear Authority 265 75 16
level 8 mk6 - 16x8
TRD center caps

Here is my other toy

New Carpet

So the first thing I really bought for my 4runner was new carpet, the stuff that was in it had a terrible smell, and I am 100% was not for a 4runner... it could have just been regualar carpet someone cut up? I am not sure.

Anyway when I started doing these things I was not planning on documenting all my projects... so here are some during and after photos.. no befores.

I think this summer I am going to take the carpet out and put sound deadener on all the floors and doors now.

edit* I found one before image.

Did not realize I had a second heater under the passenger seat.

Need some weathertec floor mats now!

Up next - goodbye steps

Had to remove the steps, Everything was pretty rusted so I just took a saw-saw and cut them off.

Rearview mirro

My girlfriend bought me a review mirror for Christmas, it has the temperature, compass, and lcd screen in it. It did not take very long to install. I spiced the camera into my reverse light out back. Everything else was very simple to hook up. After I was done I put it in learn mode and drove in some circles and now I always know which way I am pointed. I believe the brand of the mirror was a BOYO bought off amazon.com

Satoshi Grill

Once again i did not think I would be documenting anything so I built this without really taking any images.

For this project I needed.
3rd gen grill bought off partsgeek.com
Color Match Black Paint
Clear Coat
Sandpaper
Mesh from amazon.com 6"x36"
Self Adhesive Cable Tie Mount Base Holders Black

Anyway it turned out pretty good. I also stuck some yellow led bulbs in the fog lights and Sylvania SilverStar Ultra Bulbs. in the head lights.

The first picture I took of my 4runner with my canon... more to come this summer!

Suspension Lift

So I finally broke down and bought some suspension components.

Front - Bilstein 5100 Front Shock P/N 24-261425
Toytec-Eibach front coil

Rear - Bilstein 5100 Rear Shocks P/N 24-100144
I am not sure the part number on rear coil, I do know it is OME but I bought it from the forum and the guy didnt know the part number either.

I had to cut the rear shocks out because of rust, and the driver side lower front shock bolt, other than that everything went pretty well. I bought out the bottom of my frame rails are pretty rusty so my father and I are coming up with some braces to wrap around the frame and weld on to insure it is good to go. I got around 3-3.5" lift with this set, after completed I decided I probably will not need a body lift.

New wheel and tires

Went with Level 8 Mk6 and goodyear wrangler authority tires 265 75 16

I will get some better pictures soon.

I think the next plans are going to be a roof rack and some general maintenance, I have a bunch of bushing I plan on replacing on the front end as well as upper and lower control arms. Being this truck was from MN i think it will be easier to replace the control arm then try and take them out and replace the bushings.

New center caps and ditch lights

I just got some new center caps for my wheels. I also bought a set of Ridid LED pods from a guy on facebook for 120.

A few other things I have done recently:

USB charger in dash.
2002 tail lights (yet to be installed)
New brake lines (yet to be installed)
Sway bar bushings
Steering rack bushings (Yet to be installed)
New brake pads and rotors

Another project that has been done, we reinforced my frame. Major rusting going on near the gas tank so I had two L brackets made and welded into place. I will get images of the frame up here as soon as I can.
