best lasting batteries?

Looks like I'm going to need to replace it soon, any brands of recommendation based on how long they last/quality? I've heard good stuff about Odyssey batteries, are they worth the hefty price tag?

I've got on optima yellowtop and I like it alot. Alot of people run them. I haven't had them a real long time to talk about how long it will last but it's been good so far.

Just looked up some info on the Optimas, the yellow tops are exactly what I need! Forgot to mention I will be planning to run a lot of electronics and such as well inside. Thanks for the info, guys.

Looks like you decided, but I thought I'd throw in my vote for Optima as well.

I run the Red-Top in the 4runner, and the Yellow-Top in my Supra (it has an amp and a subwoofer and other electronic drains)

I killed the Yellow Top in the Supra in 3 years, and I'm on my second one, BUT.... I don't drive the car much and it sat in the garage while the alarm drained the battery DEAD, real DEAD, DEAD as a doornail... 6 or 7 times. An ordinary battery would have been toast after the first time, and definitely would not have survived a second... but the Optima kept on trucking and would take a full recharge the first 5 times.

I will second the Optima battery. Excellent quality and starts great in cold weather.

I had a red top in my Dakota for over 9 years. The battery is still good and in my garage as an extra. I replaced it because it was starting the truck a little slow on cold mornings. The best part about them to me is not the long life or deep cycle survival. It's the fact that they don't corrode at all! My 9 year old battery had absolutely no corrosion. Since that is what normally causes battery problems I think Optimas are well worth the extra money just for that. I got my new red top at Costco for $115

You can just drop one of these Optimas in? I noticed on their website it says
"
Customer must know:

* Height Adapter May Be Required
* Check Hood Clearance
"

I need to replace my battery and was interested in getting one of the red tops. I've got a 2002 4Runner SR5 4x4.

I think I am going to get another factory Panasonic battery when the times comes. I have over 6 years (6 NE winters) and 157k+ miles on my '03 V8 and it is still going strong. I'm not sure on the price, haven't checked yet. Also, I don't run any extra lights or big stereo system, so that is not an issue.

The battery I got at Costco came with the height adapter. I'm not sure though if Costco carries the model battery for the 4runners. My Dakota battery has the terminals + - on the opposite sides as what the 4runner has. Find the model battery you need here.

Thanks! You were able to get it at Costco? I assume this was an in-store purchase...man if I can get it at Costco, then I'm set! (calling them now)

Yes I bought it in the store. There's a $9 core charge so bring you're old battery with you.
