Will 265/75 R16 tires fit on 16"x 8" rims?

I was thinking of making a 100 mile drive to see if some rims for sale will fit on my 4R. Before I waste my gas taking the drive, does anyone know if my 265/75 R16 tires will fit on rims that are 16"x 8"? I'm pretty sure the rims I have the tires on right now are 16"x 7".

My 2000 SR5 4R door label says: 225/75 R15 tires and 15x7j wheels.

I bought this 4R about 5 months ago and want to replace the chrome over aluminum wheels that are corroded badly from the coast air.

A guy called and said he had a set of Allied steel wheels that are powder coated black. They are 16"x 8" with 6 lugs 5.5" across. The center hole is the same as mine too....4". These rims have 8, 1.75" holes and are still new in the box. Just what I was looking for (I hope).

The only thing I'm wondering is if my tires will fit on these rims and will these rims clear my brake rotors OK. It would be nice to know this before I waste the gas on a 200 mi. round trip. The guy I'm buying them from doesn't know much about 4R's and was going to put these rims on his Jeep Grand Cherokee but changed his mind after the rear axle broke.

Any help would be great. Thanx

I'm pretty sure they will fit, but you might want to make sure they are 6 lugs. I don't know if Grand Cherokees have 6 lugs, I always thought they were 5 lugs.

I'm not sure what year the GC Jeep is, but his wheels are 6 lug just like mine are...and the lugs are also the correct distance apart.. 5.5".

Thanks for the help and suggestions.

I guess there will be no problems if they clear the front brake calipers.

I was thinking 8 hole Black wheels with stainless steel center cap and lug nuts...and maybe a stainless steel trim ring around each wheel.

How does that sound?

'74-'92 Grand Cherokees have a 6 x 139.7 bolt pattern, which is essentially 6 x 5.50.

One thing to consider is that wheels that would fit a Grand Cherokee of that era, will likely have negative offset. Which would mean the wheels/tires would stick out from the wheel wells.
