roof top tents...?

dose anyone have one? ive been thinking for sometime about getting one. i know there are a few companies who make them, ARB, Ironman, Camping Lab, Eezi-Awn ect. im just wondering witch is the best, and what experiences you guys have had with them, ive read wright ups in magazines about them and read what they all have to say on their web pages, but without actually being able to see them in person and get inside one its kinda hard to know what i want. dose anyone have any ideas on where i could even see one or yeah? if you have one or know someone who does how have they held up and what are the pros/cons

I've got a Hunter brand RTT mounted to a small trailer.
It is about 20 years old, but I got it cheap off Craigslist. It was a demo model that was never installed. Just sat in a garage for years & years.
The company is no longer in existence.

Campinglab makes a nice unit. I've seen several of his. The I've wheeled with the owner of the company. Very nice guy. Very good quality stuff.
If I had the $$, I would have bought one of his. I couldn't afford it at the time even with the hefty discount he was going to give me.

All you need. I just spent a night in Northern VT in my hammock. It was great.

Hannibal is a good brand, but they are pricey.

i like the trailer Idea cause I think the runner roofs are small. unlike the LC roofs.
plus having a trailer that can follow you anywhere keeps room in your rig.

but alas I have neither at the moment so the hammock is looking in my my price range. lol

I'm looking at one of those tents that attaches to the rear of the hatch and what i prefer so you can just detach and do some wheeling or whatever you have to do but those aren't cheap either.

I have been thinking about this route for a while, but for the price, I cant do it.
I have a 8 person tent right now, and for a couple hundred bucks, I can get some nice cots, nice pads, and an easy up awning.
I dont go on safari or week long overlanding trips, so I dont mind setting up a tent.

i checked them out, didnt see a price on their web page, but i cant think that they would be any more $$$ than anyone else, i wanta try and keep it under $1700, if i could find one used that would be best, at this point i have no reason to believe that one is superior to another, but i also dont wanta find out the hard way that i just blew $1500 on a pile of junk that will leak the 2nd time i use it and collapses in on me the 3rd time... you know what i mean.

Thanks
The idea was to make it as light as I could. Unloaded, it weighs 380 lbs. Maybe another 100 lbs of gear in the box.
If I were a better aluminum welder, I could have made it even lighter.

Next trip I will pull it through a rock garden to see how easy it is to drag across the rocks. I made a skid plate on the axle for this.
If it gets hung up, a few guys can pick it up and haul it out.

sweet i've always wanted to get into that sort of thing, there's a whole world of dyi tent trailers out there and some are pretty epic, cool to see it adapted to tow behind our runners on the trail!
my buddy has one he puts behind his off road vw bus that carries a genny, extra fuel and a bunch of other things that might eve be needed, he's pretty much fully self sustained. i think he's running 32's
