Hey man, I tried to send these questions to you as a private message, but it said your box was already full and could no longer accept new messages.

So your advice has been instrumental in helping me devise a build plan. I was lost at first and I'm now confident of my direction, both cuz of you, and this incredible forum. I have a few specific questions for you, if you don't mind.

In regards to the SS 1.2 Kit, you mentioned going 1 notch up from the original kit. What does this specifically entail? When I originally spoke to Steve, he said the kit could support an ARB-type bumper. I left him a message on Friday, but my kit had already shipped, and at this point I'm not driving my truck until receiving my suspension kit. Right now I'm driving my GF's car, so I'm anxious to get this all done. Do I need a heavier-duty strut? Would I have to end up replacing any of the parts that already come with the kit, or is it a matter or replacing additional parts not included?

What kind of lift can I expect from the SS 1.2 Alternate Kit? Will my truck have a raked look? Personally, I like the raked look.

I'm also having my shop install Hankook Dynapro ATs 305/70/16R. Will this suspension upgrade give me the necessary clearance to run those tires, or do I need a body lift as well? Something in the 1" to 1.5" range?

I'm having my shop look over my LBJs and brakes. If I need new brakes, would you recommend switching to the Tundra upgrade?

And lastly, just a general FYI, I'm installing new Denso sparkplugs and NGK wires. Obviously, my shop is going to be aligning my suspension and balancing my new tires. I already have an external tranny cooler. I've read through 4-Ripcord's 3rd Gen Buyer's Guide and it seems I've addressed most of the important issues. Is there any other specific maintenance you recommend addressing, or is it based on need at this point? Everything else seems to be in great condition for a vehicle with 131,000k on it. Thanks again man for all of your help.

Your lift would be exactly the same as mine and the other SS 1.2 guy's trucks.

Everything Steve sent is fine but I definitely suggest going exacy 1 notch above his default instructions. Steve tries to have it set just so that it "rides like a Cadillac" and can accomidate a ARB front bumper ... but once you add any other weight like a better skid plate or winch or sliders ... it will sag like mine and BFADs.

Solution: Going up one notch solves the problem but does make it a bit stiffer, Steve will confirm since I got it from him.

See here page 10:
I found "The One", 2001 Sport Ed. TRD SC'd

You can pm me now; my inbox is cleared out.

BFAD's build is recommended by me as a must read because among other things he almost always lists the part number / model number / company / link (one of them) so that others can follow in his footsteps. This is highly useful and eliminates the need for lots of PMs or thread questions. I often go back to his thread to find a certain part number or detail.

Pretty cool pics. I love the dusk photos where you see the amber color from the vehicles. How long was that trail ride?

Update:

I removed the following today
* rear tow hitch (which I painted and then put back on)
* rear bumper, all pieces
* Bud Built front skit plate
* Spare tire

I sanded, primed and painted the tow hitch satin black and then put it back on as a quasi-bumper.

I am still waiting for the Savage bumper to be finished and I won't be driving the 4Runner very much until then.

Although not particularly interesting, here are some pics of the truck with a bit less weight...

It was an all day trip across Anza-B. We started driving around 9am; had a 2hr lunch and finished at ~ 3:30pm.

Dang it feels almost like looking at my own 4runner...since we both went all black with ARB.

That's a sweet sweet camera as well and it shows quality in those beautiful photos.

I'm hoping to get $250 and will revisit that price after 2 months of no sale.

I paid $390 to have it shipped to SD, and PowderCoated Red.

It has very minimal marks and none on the front visible part.

You have one of the cleanest 3rd gen 4Runners I have ever seen! All the small paint projects, the meticulous washing and waxing, and attention to detail make all the difference in the world. Very nice truck!
