Daemoro's '99 Build Thread

Hi! I'm new. This is my first post but I wanted to start with this because I have enjoyed so many of the build threads here. So without further ado:

Originally: 1999 4Runner SR5 4wd V6 Auto

Photobucket

[Note to self: take a better picture for original... changed it but failing light and improper adjustments to the camera settings still make it look bad ]

As of July 2011 this is my wife's daily driver. We purchased this to replace her car that was totaled in a flood. After another 6-18 months (with no car payments) this will be MINE and we will get her something else (I have her leaning towards an '02 Limited 4Runner because I like the 3rd Gens).

UPDATE 6/6/12 : The wife is now in a 2004 Sequoia so the 4runner is mine to do with as I please.

Any advice on the specific mods to come or even the order in which to perform them would be greatly appreciated.

Tires & Wheels

16" TKO's I didn't get the standard center caps with these (Thx Discount Tire)

Hankook Dynapro ATM 265/70R16

Suspension

Bone Stock {Trying to decide if I want to mod the suspension before or after I make bumpers and skid plates. I'm leaning towards after since I want the truck to sit level when I'm done. I really like the idea of using adjustable coil overs for the front so I get the ride AND the lift I want as I continue to change things up. Been looking at the Toyotec Kits and the RaceRunner Sway Aways}

Armor

Stock Bumpers {I never cared for the look of tube bumpers on 4Runners so I want plate steel bumpers. Looking for a place to cut my metal so I can just concentrate on the welding(and by "I" I mean my uncle who is good at it)}

Sliders=none {I have removed the running boards though so they don't get crushed}

Stock Skid Plates {I plan on making some new ones to replace all three stock ones. My uncle has some nice sheets of stainless that I might use.}

Engine

Stock 3.4 V6 {dreaming of a Supercharger like most everyone here I'm sure}

K&N Air Filter

Transmission & Differential

Stock
Extended Rear Differential Breather to the gas filler area.

Brakes

Stock {weighing the need of moving up to the Tacoma brakes}

Misc Wants/Needs

Remove the pin striping - DONE
Removed and Painted Badges -DONE
Sport Hood...someday
Roof Rack
Tire Carrier
Snorkel
Fender Flares
Replace Power Antenna - DONE
Switches for Air Bags and ABS
Mod Grill

I'm sure there's much more I need to do that I don't even know about yet. I will try to get a better picture this week and poll the crowd on what to do in what order. I'm about to hit submit so here's hoping the formatting works right.

Little did I know that my truck had already been modded:

I figured since I had a K&N Air filter I was ready to go Rock Crawling:

LOOK AT THAT FLEXIBILITY!

OK all joking aside I have always liked the FJ Cruiser Limited Edition TRD wheels so I did a mock up of how my truck would look right now with them.

Honest Opinions on what you think please... I will see about doing some running board removal and maybe replacing the bumpers with something similar to what I'm wanting to work towards eventually to get the "full look"... I should probably remove those pin stripes as well.

My honest opinion is that if you like it, then do it! That being said, I think those are great looking wheels.

I have always though those were great looking wheels! You say that's a photoshop? Nice job.

Good luck finding a set of those for less than $1.5k though...

I was under the impression that you could get them as replacements if you had an appropriate VIN. There are a couple of FJ's in town and I might be able to persuade them to help me out and order some on my behalf.... especially if they think theirs are in danger of disappearing off their trucks while they are parked

j/k

Well the day finally came when the wife got another vehicle. A few months ago we picked her up a 2004 Sequoia. So now the 4runner is mine!

Got a little help from my daughter washing the truck before making any changes.

Didn't take us long to get here either:

This was the end of a long hard ride for the Lil Red Devil.

She has been passed along to a man who had his heart replaced with a 22RE.

I hummed and hawed about removing my running boards and the other week I said what the heck and took them off. Totally changed the look of my runner and i like it. Only complaints came from the GF who said its too hard to get into now lol
