DIY smartphone holder

Hi gang.
Thought I'd share since I didn't find a DIY solution that I liked.
1. Cut a strip of metal (from Home Depot) to fit behind the trim. You may have to drill a hole for the bolt. I sprayed the exposed portion with plasti-dip to make it black.

2. Attach (with screws) your favorite phone holder!

I decided to redo my holder, so here are the details along with pics.

1. pop off the console (no tools required)
DIY smartphone holder-slide03-jpg
2. take off the trim piece beneath the steering wheel (held in with two screws) and then take off the one screw holding the trim piece around the radio
DIY smartphone holder-slide04-jpg
3. remove two bolts beneath the radio and take off the trim
DIY smartphone holder-slide05-jpg
4. get one of these metal straps from home depot or similar
DIY smartphone holder-slide06-jpg
5. you'll need some sheet metal cutters

6. cut to this shape (11 inches long), drill a hole at around the 10.5" mark

7. this wooden block will be used as a backing for the metal strap. I will stick it on to the metal strap with a piece of carpet tape

and bend into shape:

Oh hey, you have the same heated seats installed as my old V6 runner had. I put those in last winter before I sold it, and they were amazing! My Limited's heated seats are weak compared to those bad boys.

Also back on topic that holder looks like a nice touch. Best part.. no interior damage!

Must have been an upgrade option on this SR5. I haven't had the chance to test them out yet. Supposed to get cold this week so I have that to look forward to
