rxlouie's '06 4Runner Limited Build Thread

Starting to build out my '06 4Runner Limited for some offroad use so I thought I'd start up a build thread for truck. This is my first SUV. Really enjoying the Toyota. I picked this up mostly for photography tours and to get a little deeper into the backcountry with my tour guests and still have a comfortable ride.

I picked it up with about 92K. It had a few scratches, but nothing an orbital buffer and some sweat didn't fix.

Wet Okole and ProClip Mounts installed

Just starting to mod my 2006 4Runner. Got in on the Tacoma World Wet Okole Seat Cover and got them installed along with some ProClip Mounts for my iPad Mini 2 and iPhone 6.

Toytec Boss Suspension Installed

The Toytec Boss Suspension finally came off of backorder and got it installed with Light Racing UCA's, some new Fuel Offroad Wheels and Toyo Open Country 33's. I had the Body Mount Chop done and cut some of the fender off to get them to fit.

This new suspension absorbs dips and bumps so much better then the XREAS suspension. This thing takes turns solid now. No Sway. Love it. Now I need to get it off road for a real test.

I've taken a few more pictures since the suspension upgrade and also added some RCI skid plates and Rock sliders to the truck. I also had a chance to take the 4Runner down to the Ouray/Telluride area and test out the suspension.

I love the suspension. It performed great along with the 33's. It's just what I wanted in the truck and couldn't be happier with the Toytec Boss suspension and LR UCA's. I think it has a little more truck like ride, but that maybe due to the 33's. It takes corners much flatter and with the lift now just goes right over rocks that would have scraped previously. Here's some recent pics.

I don't like anything about this...the choice in year, the model, the color, your location, or your name...ha!

Seriously though, nice build.

Ha! Nice build! Looks like we are heading in the same direction. I'm not sure I am as aggressive as you will be but looks good. Maybe we'll see you on the trail.

I did some damage to my rear link during my trip up to Imogene. I should have purchased a set of rear link skids - would have been a cheaper solution, BUT... it gave me the excuse to get some beefier rear lower control arms while fixing the damage. Found a set of Toytec rear lower control arms that someone didn't want had the links straightened and added the RCI rear Link skids to protect the new control arms. The bolts holding the link skids seemed a little squirrely so put small weld on them to hold them into place.

I have a few questions for you if you don't mind. I am thinking of picking up an RCI front skid. Does the RCI front skid replace just the factory front skid, or the front and mid skid as well? Also, any idea if it plays nice with the factory mid skid (if it doesn't replace both)?

The front plate covers the the front back to the oem skid over the Oil drain plug. I can't say whether it plays well with factory skids, but I would assume so since it uses the same bolt locations, just uses longer bolts. I replace front, transmission and transfer case at the same time. I highly recommend you do the lower link skids. They are the cheapest skid RCI sells and that is the place most susceptible to damage. I learned the hard way. Also consider getting a Fumoto Valve. Makes it much easier than taking off the plate each time for an oil change. Give Josh a call at RCI. They are very helpful.

Nice build and nice photos! I was curious about your RCI sliders. I don't see those under the 4Runner section of their website. Are these the 2nd Gen Tacoma sliders?
