Decided to man up yesterday and cut my stock grill up and here are my findings.
1. Cutting the grill with a jig saw went through like butter, just used painters tap on the front side so the jig saw base would coast across that if i needed to cut from the front (which I did in a few places.)
2. The stock stand offs (both they keyed ones and the ones that just hold the self drilling screws) that support the metal frame were very brittle on my grill, just simply unscrewing them caused a couple to break. I repaired with Marine-Tex and then added two new bolts vertically through the grill mesh down through the metal frame for extra support. Seems very solid now.

Very pleased with the final result imo.
