PJKU79's Build (05 v8 4wd)

First off, I would like to introduce myself. I have been lingering for a few months and asking a question here and there. I am a former Jeep guy that has moved over to T4R. My previous Jeep was a 97 wrangler with a custom LCG lift, locked F/R D44s and 35s. I don't plan on going quite that hard on the T4R.

Now to what I am starting with, 3 months ago I purchased a 2005 V8 4wd 4Runner. I came with a just barely broke in engine at 132k. It is in pretty good shape, but does need some work. Below are a few pictures as it sat when I purchased it.

Maintenance

I have already started doing a lot of maintenance since I wasn't sure the state of the T4R when I purchased it.

132,000
-Timing belt and water pump replaced. I checked to see if it had a sticker on it that indicated that it had been done previously, but no luck.
-Oil change
-New front and rear brake pads and rotors

133,000
-dash replaced by dealer

134,000
-I started feeling the "clunk". After some help from fellow members, I realized all I needed to do was lube up the drive shafts.
-installed new wipers

141,000
-Had a coolant leak. Not sure if I caused this or not, but I noticed a leak at the thermostat. I replaced the gasket and this was resolved. Later I found an o-ring on the heater line that was cracked. I think I am good to go now.

Suspension

I have started to gather parts for a lift. Once I get all the parts I need, I will start to update this post. My goal is to have a very capable daily driver that I can take out with my son to some of the local offroad parks or to the beach.

Front
I have a set of Toytec BOSScoilovers for the front. I got them from someone that purchased them then almost imediately decided to got to the BOSS 2.5. They only have 5000 miles on them.

Rear
I have a set of lightly used Icon 2.0 shocks. I am still searching for a set of springs. I would like to get some of the MT or Icon overland springs, but haven't seen any used sets yet. I may just end up with a set of 2" lift Icon springs.

UPDATE: I just purchased a set of MT LT springs (progressive ones). They should be in soon. I think I have everything I need to get rolling.

Armor

17-07-13
Ordered some DOM sliders from 4x Innovations. Now I just have to wait 4-6 weeks for them to come in.

17-10-24
Prinsu Roof Rack installed.
Comments: In general, CBI (or Prinsu) really need to get their stuff together. My roof rack came with a very damaged box. In the box were damaged crossbars. Also, even if the crossbars weren't damaged, there still weren't the ones that I had ordered. After several emails back and forth (I tried to give them a break and let them knock some money off for the damaged bars and not making the ones I ordered, but they wouldn't), they sent the correct bars. Yesterday while trying to install everything, I noticed the washers they sent to attached the rack to the roof were too small to go through the bolts, so I found myself spending an extra 30 min or so drilling out 8 washers.

Aside from that the roof rack looks great. I did hear quite a bit of wind noise this morning while I was driving to work. I also had a new vibration at about 72mph. I am going to remove my MAXSA Tracks to see if they are causing the problem or if I need to invest in some weather stripping at the leading edge of the wind deflector.

At a later date I will likely get front and rear bumpers.

Tires

When I purchased my T4R, my tires were already in pretty bad shape, so I knew that was something that I would have to do relatively soon. My plan was to get some bigger tires, but after a lot of research I found that 35s or 285s might need a little more modifications than I was willing to do.

A little searching on craigslist scored me a set of skinnys from a local 2016 Rubicon. I figure in the end I will probably have about $200 into my set of 5 tires. Yesterday I picked up these babies for $500.

Based on the market here in San Antonio, I think I should be able to sell the Rubi rims for at least $300. Not bad $40/tire with only 500 miles on them.

At some later date I would still like to go bigger and probably get some aftermarket wheels, but that's not in the budget right now.

UPDATE: bought the tires for $500, sold the rims for $400, and paid $20 to mount the tires. New set of 5 tires for $120 ($20 each). NICE!!!

Things I want to take care of

Below is a list of things that are bothering me. Feel free to chime in if you have a solution.

-Faded paint on the mirrors and wheel flares. It doesn't drive me crazy yet, but looks like crap. Has anyone rattle canned these or pasti dip?

-Foggy headlights
I was going to get some toothpaste out and see if that would clean it up at all, but I suspect is it on the inside.

New dash

When I purchased my T4R, it came with a pretty cracked up dash. The guy I purchased it from said if I wanted it replaced I just needed to get in line at the dealer for a free dash. Honestly I thought it was too good to be true, but last week I got my dash replaced for free.

Not I just need to get back up there to have them get me a new bezel for my center speaker since they were kind enough to break it when they replaced the dash.

I have also started to notice some itching noises and am not a huge fan of the color difference, but it was FREE. I guess I shouldn't complain.

I updated my rear suspension purchases today.

Since I don't have large tires, I don't expect to have to move the bump stops and since I just have the Icon 2.0 shocks, I don't expect to have to change the brake lines. Does everyone agree with that?

I finally installed the rubicon tires and got it aligned. I was a little disappointed in the shop as they got my sill completely dirty and the steering wheel is a little off center. I also noticed the steering seems a little loose. This could be the difference in larger tires though. Any thoughts?

OP - maybe it is just me, but none of your pictures work. Would like to see them though. Interested in the rear suspension setup. Thanks.
