Easye's 4th Gen Build Thread

Current Picture:

My first ride was a 2005 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner 6-speed

Bilstein 5100s all around, nothing crazy. Xd hoss wheels, way too much audio
Let's not talk about the ebay headlights....

Then I had a 2014 Tacoma Trd Offroad 6-speed. Was awesome. Didn't enjoy the whole car payment thing so I sold that, probably should've just kept that, but that is history now.

Had 2 2nd gen 4runners. One was 3.4 swapped

Now I'm here with an Autotragic 4th Gen 4Runner SR5 4WD V6.

Purchased in March of 2018. The first fun thing I got to do was replace the headgasket...

Then I updated the headlights, the old ones were very fogged over.

Then onto the lift and CVs and everything you need to do with those.

Went with the OME front and rear shocks, Front OME coils and Rear Toytec RCC2.0, Diff Drop, Front sway bar relocate, CV axles both sides, and brakes all around. Was about 12 hours of labor all in with some help from a buddy.

The CV axles are so easy there is no way I would ever pay a shop what they want to change those after doing it myself.

Think I need extended rear sway bar end links??

Freshly off the lift.

Had to put on the stickers

Current Mods
  • OME 3/2 lift kit 884 front, toytec superflex in the back
  • BFG KO2s 285/70/17
  • CB, Bearcat 880, Firestick 4', CBI passenger bracket
  • spidertrax spacers
  • breather extension
  • RCI full skids
  • RCI sliders
  • Snorkel - LC80
  • Rola Rack, 4xinnovations low profile mounts
  • ARB Dual compressor

Parts on the way:
The To-do list:
  • Winch
  • rear e-locker maybe a swap from an FJ
  • change cb radio out for something more low profile. Thinking 75wxst

My goal is to take this 4runner across both borders. Canada and Mexico. Long term goal is to do a large portion of the Panamerican Highway.

Man I wish the pictures were showing up, would like to see the work you did as I am in UCB the same spot in terms of lift/axle/suspension woods necessary after 200k miles.

Good luck with it.

Updated pic with new tires. 285/70/17. i would highly suggest not falling into the treadwright trap. Ordered some KO2s.

With a new thermostat, water pump, timing chain + tensioner. It cost almost $3k. Couldn't find any cheaper in Memphis and I trust this shop.

How was the sound of the exhaust after cutting it off? I’m looking to do the same I hear it helps get rid of the smell while driving with the rear window open.

Wasn’t a sound difference. I was under the impression that cutting that resonator off had no change on the v6s and that is the case.

Had to make an expensive purchase of 6 Denso coil packs. The previous owner thought a set of Deal coil packs was a good purchase. I can tell you that it was a bad idea. Had a stumble at idle and sometimes when cruising. Replaced the coil packs and she runs amazing now.

Yes, the plugs are new and NGK. The stumble didn't change at all with spark plug change. If you look up Deal brand you can get the entire set for around $100 whereas the Denso ones are $60 a piece.

Nice build! I'll be tackling axles myself real soon. Any advice? Did you remove the tie rod from the spindle or just the two 19mm's by the LBJ?
