It sure didn't sound like it since you were asking how to explain two symptoms that could obviously have been caused by a blown head gasket.

I'm confident that others not as auto-tech-savy would have easily been confused by your line of questioning. Glad we set that straight - carry on.

Uh...aluminum engine...broken serpentine belt? If you shut down the cooling system on any engine it is tow truck time but it is ultimate engine death time with an aluminum one. Your misfire could have been as simple as a bad spark plug coil or wire. You most likely cooked the block & heads by driving it to the dealer.

Next time...if there is one call the flatbed tow service. $150 is much cheaper than a new engine.

soooooooooooooooooooooooooo.....

there has been some time go by since the last time i posted and thats because we came to a problem when we were hooking up the wiring harness, so all the plugs are fitting correctly and then we get to the cam sensor type and the plug doesnt fit, so we pull the sensor and it a completly different type of sensor from a 04 block to a 05 block, it changed to a mre (so?) type sensor that detects time immediately when the engine cranks over and not at 200rpm plus like the old type sensor so its a more efficient type but what that means is that this engine wont work!! in order to make it work we would have to disable the whole timing system swap cams and who knows what else so we decide to have the company we bought the engine from locate us a new one....

and some weeks go by....

and some more weeks go by....

until this week when we finally have a engine!! well its on its way down from oregon, its a 04 engine, with 15,000 miles, great compression and all diagnosis checks come out great, the only bad side is that its a few hundred more

so it should be here this following weekend and this next wednesday we are gonna get prepped by getting the old engine ready to send back, i.e take off the freshly installed water pump and a few other things-

cant wait to be done with this whole thing!!

Rook didn't quote you, he quoted someone else. I can't believe you have to get a different engine - good luck.

I however will call you a forum noob.

Not you Josh, sorry to clog up the thread, but I hate when someone starts a post with "uh" I was commenting on the noob who was trying to educate you on engines, apparently not noticing the fact that you are doing your own engine swap. Good luck with the new motor.

the oil sump was damaged from the accident the previous 4runner was in so we had to remove it and install my old sump

this engine came out of a 2004 4runner sport v6 titanium metallic sooo the exact same truck as mine!!

Photobucket

oil sump removed and a nice view of the crank

Photobucket

new oil sump installed, next up the oil pan

also installed a new water pump and two new pulleys, the third was in great shape from my previous engine

Photobucket

new valve covers and oil sump and pan, along with the exhaust manifolds

now the engine is ready to be dropped in

Photobucket

lining up...
