Driver door autolocks when in drive?
I just picked up a 2003 4Runner and love it. Only problem Im having is that only the driver's door locks when in drive. No biggie until I want to get out of the car. I have to manually unlock to get out. The passenger door unlocks when parked.
Any suggestions?

The door locks has several options.
1) Do nothing
2) LOCK when you take it out of P & UNLOCK when you put it back into P
3) LOCK when you take it out of P & remain LOCK when you put it back into P
There's also a bonus feature where you can add onto.
a) Which when your doors are all locked & you stop to drop off your passanger, when you take off, at 12mpg, the doors will relock aka lock that door where the passanger came out of.
My door locks are set to #3 & A.
I don't have the manual readily handy, but it's there.

My doors are set to #3 (above). Also, you can open the front doors without manually unlocking them. But you cannot open the back doors without manually unlocking them.

Picked up my '03 on Thursday, love it. But the door locks are driving me nuts, the programming routine doesn't seem to do anything. No clicking of the locks after following the steps. How exact is that five seconds? Do I need to open and close a door between attempts, or start the car, or any secret incantation? Maybe I need to unhook the battery for a time to reset everything? The door lock lever is scratched up from previous owners manually unlocking, I'm thinking something isn't working correctly.
Help!

I did this awhile ago. If I remember right there is a light on the middle dashboard that blinks every second. I used that to count the 5 seconds required to change the setting.
Hope that helps!

Despite popular belief, the Owners Manual will NOT burst into spontaneous combustion when exposed to light and the human eye.

Er, I did read the manual, cover to cover, the night I brought it home. I'm following the same page posted by jharris2, is there something I'm missing, or information elsewhere in the manual? I have an extremely procedure-oriented job, so I'll be embarrassed if I missed something obvious, but grateful.
Do you live around O'Hare?

NW burbs.
+1 on procedure oriented job. Nuclear power industry here. If the procedure doesn't say to wipe your azz, either you don't or you revise the procedure first...

Me too. If the procedure doesn't say to put away my laptop before landing... (actually it does).

Thank you from those of us that purchased used and a manual was never included. That locking system was driving me nuts.

+1 Mine is set to A but when i go to open the door i have to pull twice to get the lock to change positions. I'm thinking a cable or something may be loose. But now i'm just going to set it to a different setting
