Radio trouble
When i got in my truck yesterday, it was realy hot. After I started it, the radio came on as usual but the display showed jibberish. It comes and goes now. What can I do to fix this? It does not effect the sound but you cant read the screen. I do not want an aftermarket radio if I can help it.

while i cant offer a solution to fix it i can say ive heard of many weird things happening to radios recently. my friend in her volvo had an issue where it was changing stations on its own.
And i had a weird issue where i could watch the volume indicator go up and down on its own? i watched the display and the volume would climb and then go back down.
neither of us have had the issue since but still alarming

Mine hasn't done this per se. What it has done is that the radio just turns off by itself. The first time I think I may of bumped one of the radio controls on the steering wheel. But but pressing all the normal buttons to turn the radio back on, nothing worked. I turned off and then back on the car, and the radio came back on. It's done the exact same thing a few other times, once when I was off roading and holding the wheel for deal life off some rocks. None off the buttons worked, only turning it off and then back on seemed to reset things. Go fig. Odd.

This should probably be moved to Audio & Electronics. Anyway, my stock radio on my SR5 did this awhile back when it was really hot and the truck was sitting outside with the sunroof open (direct sunlight on the radio deck). After I closed the sunroof and everything cooled down, it all went back to normal. See if time helps, if not, you might just be out of luck :/

Welcome to my world.
My radio started doing this about 6 months after I bought my 4runner brand new. Its a 2008 and has done it every summer for the past 2 years. Every time it gets hot out it starts. Whats better is that I get the big blocks, gibberish, it will turn off on its own, if I have CD's in the player it will randomly at will start ejecting them and sometimes the volume knob does not work, it just spins around and around.
Since mine is / was under warranty I talked with the dealer and they confirm there was a lot of bad radios and this was a know defect. If the vehicle is under warranty they will replace it if the number on the radio falls in the recall lot. I decided I would rather upgrade to an aftermarket radio down the line and opted out. Plus I would never let a dealer pull my interior apart. The will F it up. You’re better off going after market.
btw: when any of this happens to me, I simply turning off the ignition and restarting the car to reset it.

This has happened to me. Upon turning the vehicle off and restarting it typically self resolves.

Funny. This just happened to me today for the first time. The radio was playing, suddenly stopped and tried to load a disc, then went back to playing. It did this a few times on the way home from work. It was hot in the car, but not nearly as hot as it has been in the past. At least my radio is not the only one with a mind of its own.

If yours is a pioneer built, it has something to do with the gold connectors...
On our 4runner we first had the radio/cd changer spitting out cds...then upon replacement the thing was possessed. FINALLY on the 3rd try the unit was good.
Apparently Pioneer made a real bad batch of headunits....

Well, apparently this is a more recent thread. I bumped the crap out of an 06 thread dealing with the random gibberish and ejecting of the CDs upon start. Mine also does this when its really hot in the car, and eventually returns to normal. Sounds like this may just be a "deal with it" issue given the commonality and the fact that my used 06 would not fall under warranty most likely.

same issue
Hello,
I had the same issue last summer. Took it to the dealer, they put another headunit.
Couple of months ago, started happening again due to heat.
This time I will just leave it as is.

I get the same symptoms in my 07. When the outside temps get above 80 the display goes wonky and CDs start randomly ejecting. I actually stumbled upon this thread while looking to see what replacement options others have used.

Radio Changing stations by itself
Just last night the radio starting changing stations by itself . None of the station buttons worked so I turned off the radio and turned it back on Radio worked fine after that. The display was fine and readable.
Too bad my 7 year warranty just expired last June.

That's happened to me when the outside temp is quite cold. and I also restarted the vehicle and it went away.

Well that does make sense. We have been getting some record cold weather this week.
