The ride is better than stock, and much better than with the spacer lifts I tried. I feel better on freeway ramps now than I did stock. Mind you, it is not the same as the Z06 I have driven.

Regardless of the amount of lift you dial into these coil overs, the ride and drive is superior to stock. But then, you might expect that for the $2,200 cost of the parts and installation labor.
What size tires are those?

Oops, I saw 265/70/17!

I like the look of your runner. I am waiting for Bilstein to come out with shocks. Had them on my '01 and they were great.

RL....

You've probably posted this somewhere else, but how did you mount the lights on the front? Light bar?

That set up is sweet!

I give you a ton of credit. Tracy (Rocky) had mentioned to me on YT that you had beaten everyone to the punch with this set up.

Nice work.

Doug M.

BTW: Sorry for being so late on this posting!

Thanks. The more I challenge the front suspension the more I'm glad I made the investment. There is a street here with surface storm drains at every intersection. The Hoe's make blasting across them smooth.

Hey RL,

I've been thinking about removing my XREAS set up and going for more suspension lift similar to yours.

But I'm wondering with the current set up you have, how far do you think it's possible to lift the front? I'm guessing nearly 4" or so.

It's been so long, that I can't remember what my stock set up was.

Thanks,

Doug M.

Good Times would be the best source for maximum info. When the installer completed mine they said that the 3+ lift I have is it, and still do an easy alignment. The Donahoe's come with 2.5" of lift set. On my set-up I was limited by the NE rear spacers which I kept awaiting suitable replacement springs. The installer leveled the frame making for the ideal ride height. The easy part of the Donahoe's, or any other coil over, is that we can easily readjust the front lift with a spanner. Small adjustments are not supposed to affect the alignment.

For radical, PM Good Times. He is the source for my information.

NE? Heck, I don't know. Anthony and I talked some time ago when I told him about how the Toyota of Plano tech disconnecting the Xreas when installing the NE lift. He immediately went to his site and blamed all my issues on that.

Starting a small business is always difficult. Without a sound moral base to the business model the result will be unfettered greed. Blind ambition. It's such a shame as Anthony had such a good start with the support of this list.

This is great news. What would most excite me would be long lasting 3" lift rear coil springs. Then as an option, the right sized air bladder for those times I am carrying, or towing, a heavy load.

We are working on a lift coil-spring and a Reservoir shock for the rear.

RL...

Since your new setup, you said many times how you are glad to be rid of the spacer lift in front. Knowing what you do now, if you had to do it over and the coil-overs were not an option, would you still do the spacer lift again. Just curious because you kept saying how bad(harsh) the ride is with spacers. Thanks.

Knowing what I do now, and if there were no other option than a spacer lift, I wouldn't buy one. 1) Too stiff of a ride, which transfers too much of the jolt to the 4Runner. 2) The stiff suspension caused the 4Runner to hop over sharp pavement angle changes. 3) The tires would lose contact going around corners where there was a crack or pothole.

The Donahoe coil overs, for not that much more money, make a huge difference. All the best parts of a compliant ride found in the stock set-up, yet the ability to go well beyond the speeds of the stock 4Runner with full composure.

I was chasing after an end-dump that had just dropped a load on my project. I was flying across a hard, rough & rutted field at over 50 to cut off his escape. The ride was smooth and controlled.
