oil filter question

I plan to switch to mobil 1 synthetic oil for my T4R and plan to extend oil changes to 7500mi. or 6 mos. should I use OEM toyota oil filters or some other brand? will the oem filter hold up for extended oil changes intervals?

I use the Mobil 1 extended life.A few bucks more than a factory filter, but a little more piece of mind.

ANY good filter will do....

Fram, Wix, OEM, Mobil 1.

Personally I wouldn't go 7,500 miles. Are you trying to get the longest use of OIL..or the longest use of the engine????

I say to stay away from all Fram oil filters, they are pretty much junk.

For synthetic oils it is suggested to have an oil filter with a synthetic filter media like Mobil 1, K&N, PureOne or Bosch. Wix and Napa Gold filters are good too but they have a natural filter media.

If you want longer oil change intervals like 7,500 or 10,000 miles that is okay but change the filter halfway through the cycle (3,750 or 5,000).

Agree with Paul. I run Mobil 1 and Mobil's filter. Couldn't be happier.

I stated 7500 miles only for argument sake but in reality I put on only 5-6k miles per year so would it be safe to change oil every 6-8 months if I use synthetic?

You can run any synthetic oil 1 year with a 5-6000 mile interval. A factory filter will easily do 6000 miles.

You might want to read and watch this. I used mobil1 filter for years until I went back to OEM (with mobil1 oil). Don't get me wrong they make great oil and filters but 12.99 for a filter is overkill.

If you're exceeding the recommended oil change interval of 5k miles then you could be voiding your engine warranty.

+1 This is also true and the #1 reason I change at 5000. I have had warranty claims with vehicles where they ask for my proof of maintenance. I bought in my notebook "log" with all dates, mileage, receipts. No argument.

If you check the toyota website a lot of the engines have been approved for 10k oil change intervals if using synthetic. My dads tundra owners manual says to change the oil at 10k when using synthetic.
Good stuff about oil at this site.
