Another dealer offered $400 above invoice if I placed an order and waited a couple of months (since they could not get one either), but their trade value was terrible so I went with the first dealer.

I have a feeling that some dealers won't be making great deals right now - despite what some folks are saying - since a lot of their stock is sitting stranded in the back, and they only have a few models they can sell until the ban is lifted. I was working a deal on a Highlander Limited for a week and was just about to sign the papers when they came to me and said the price had just gone up $1,000 since they were not going to be able to get any more this month (this was right after the sales ban, but delivery would not have been until mid-February) - supply and demand they said. I told them I did not appreciate being treated that way and left - made a better deal at the first dealer on the same vehicle the next day so I was glad I walked.

Sounds like there are a pile of demo units at the Plano dealership if you don't mind "slightly" used!
I'd be leary when one dealer says a week away and another says months way if they are in the same region and trying to get the same 4Runner with the same options. The sales managers should be getting info from the same computerized data base for the GST region.

We don't get as good a deal in the GST region because our economy is better then most of the country and they are pretty hot sellers here.A guy just bought a Limited local last week or so and said he got a $1000 rebate for customer loyalty .

You know you can go up to Branson or any Missouri dealers and they are in a different region. They have a whole different group of 4Runners to pick from and make deals on if things don't work out with your dealer.

By the way,I'm envious... I've driven up thru your neck of the woods and it is soooo beautiful.

Supply and demand. That's because 4Runners are pretty hot sellers around here and the bad economy did'nt hit us as hard. PM me if you want me to put you in touch with the dealer I went thru the last two times in the DFW area. One of the better ones.

alrodan... third row seat ones are rare in this region as you probably already know.

Thanks for the info Harper. I had a bear of a time getting a 4Runner. Every dealer (seven of them) promised delivery within a week via a dealer trade - even with a VIN#. There actually was only one of the vehicle that I wanted in the region, but only one (a simple limited, silver, with Nav - not sure why they are so scarce). Problem was that none of the dealers could get it - the other dealer would not trade, yet the dealers I was working with still took my deposit money and promised it would arrive "within five days." I finally made a deal with one of the dealers who had one incoming for sure and was able to change the equipment order, and so it is supposed to be here next week, about a three-week wait. Most vehicles I've bought in the past few years have come off of Texas lots, but there did not seem to be any down there in January. (Missouri didn't have any either - I worked with two dealers up there!)

I was also buying a Highlander Limited for my wife and got the exact same runaround - only one vehicle available in the region and multiple dealers promised delivery within five days, yet none of them were able to actually produce the car. So I found one incoming from the very same dealership I got the 4runner from, although it is going to be a couple of weeks longer wait.

We have a sloppy mess up here right now with the wet/snow/ice, and we live 60 miles back in the woods (18 miles of nasty dirt roads anytime we want to go anywhere). My Acura MDX is not liking all this and I'm ready to get it traded for a 4Runner (of course I'll have to buy new wheels and tires the first day I get it, but that is just part of it all I guess).

Harper7: please do I can't seem to get the deals every one is talking about, so any dealers you recommend will be a great help for me, am getting ready to give up and just get an Acadia if I can't find the right price.

Not sure where you are at but at San Marcos Toyota south of Austin they are giving pretty good deals. They gave me close to 2k off sticker on a SR5 w/premium pkg, stereo w/bluetooth pkg, sunroof, tint, exhaust tip all for a couple hundred over 32K. I tried to get the Austin Tx toyota dealers to match the quote and they just refused. They weren't even trying to play ball. They just said if we get one in we sale it for sticker so why should we deal? Good luck.

I worked with Andrew in internet sales there.

Not even really shopping but sent an inquiry to a local dealer about a test drive and the internet sales person instantly took off $3k off MSRP for a TE with KDSS and no NAV. Definitely deals can be found.

Just an update in the Houston area...I had been dealing with a dealer that has told me over and over...MSRP is it...until the Owner Loyalty rebate...now it's $1000 under MSRP.

I submitted an internet request to another are dealer...without calling me or begging for me to come in...internet manager send me a quote what was almost $1000 under the other dealers best price before apply the owners loyalty rebate.

Still debating the 2010 vs waiting for the 2011 though...

Hello,

While I have been thinking about trading in my 4G for a 5G, I saw an interesting promotion from a Stealer in Baltimore, MD. $4500 off MSRP for a Limited with Nav and get this: 2.99% Financing for 60 Months. February Special Only. A Limited for $37,800.00 is not bad.

Could you please give the dealer and salesmans name... Thanks

I snagged my 5th gen for $200 over invoice. I'm sure my trade had a lot to do with it but I'm happy w/ what they gave me ('98 2WD, 138k and pretty beat up but still mechanically very solid - $4k). I realize I could have sold it myself for a few k more but did not want the hassle.

I worked three different dealers in the Memphis area. The day before I bought my 5th gen I actually put an offer on a 4th gen at a dealer across town. Being greedy a-holes they came back w/ bs counter so I walked.

The following day was actually my first visit to the largest dealership in my area. They had almost exactly what I wanted sitting on the lot. SR5 w/ leather and all the bells (it was gray and I wanted white). Test drove, made what I thought was a solid opening offer. Rep came back w/ the invoice printed (stick was 35,700 - invoice was 31,800). Said they would take $200 over invoice) At that point we were off by only $1500. I told him to split the diff and he added another $500 to my trade. Done.

Oddly while I was sitting in the lobby in the middle of the negotiations on my new ride a young couple came in and inquired about the 5th Gen Limited in the showroom. They asked the receptionist about discounts and she told them it was a "sticker price vehicle" and they jumped back into their kia and left. She was either mistaken or a master at vetting leads.

If they do announce a warranty extension on the 2010 4runner I would imagine everyone who has already purchased would still get the extended warranty lengths as well. Just may miss out on any serious $$$$, however I doubt the 4runner is going to have big incentives anyways. They are selling all they can make right now. More likely camreys and such will get the big cash rebates if they do go that route.
