Remote Start for T4R (Limited Owners Only)

T4R Limited owners....has anyone solved the issues with remote start and the push button/RFID start on the Limited model???

Issues that I keep reading about:
1. Range (primarily the OEM remote starter)
2. Engine shut off
Either by:
-Touching the door handle shuts off the T4R
-Stepping on the break shuts off the T4R

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! Please be specific.

A search on this site would give you at least five threads that talk about this issue.

1) Range sucks w/ OEM. This is a well known fact. My dealer even told me about it which made me upgrade to a Pursuit long-range remote start...sold and installed by the dealer of course. It was only $50 more than an OEM one so I thought, what the heck...gimmie the better one. I don't mind the extra fob.

2) Engine shut-off. It's a Toyota design. There's no way around it except for one member who was able to bypass it w/ a 3rd party remote start. It hasn't been duplicated by anyone else though....

Yeah I saw I think all of those threads, was wondering if anybody figured out anything new out.

I would really like for that one member who was able to bypass it w/ a 3rd party remote start, give some more details on how it was done.

Someone permanently ground the door/unlock sensor going to the remote start control box.

So would just about every other Limited owner here but for some reason he won't or can't Most likely cuz it don't work as he stated, I'm sure he'll pop in and twist it around a little more

My dealer told me the same thing: save your money.

Then I made the mistake of mentioning remote starters to my brother, who is an insurance claim adjustor. He went off about how many of his clients have fires due to aftermarket and OEM remote starters. He also said this with my wife present, which means we won't be getting a remote starter...

I just had an avital remote start with a fortin bypass module in my 2012 limited. System works great. Only slight downside is when remote started I must use remote to unlock doors but vehicle does not turn off when door is opened. I simply press start button twice and off I go.

Can you specify which Fortin bypass module was used? The EVO-ALL models say that if the brake is pressed the vehicle will shut off. I would love to get this to work as well as yours does!

I have the evo can unit. When I get in the car I press the start button twice before putting it into gear.

I just bought my 2014 Limited 4Runner (push button ignition) and was SHOCKED when I found out how the remote start worked...can you please let me know exactly what you bought and how it was installed so that you can get into your car without it shutting off? I have 2 young children and getting them in the car when the car has shut itself off is driving me insane! I can't even make myself use the remote start anymore because I'm so aggravated.

I just got off of the phone with a Fortin representative, but he had such a thick French accent that I really couldn't understand everything he was trying to tell me.

Any help will be much appreciated

its called a Fortin Evo-All. it does take over on RF based push to start toyotas. camrys, highlanders, 4runners and rave4 and others.

It can be used with any remote starter brand out there. some brands can communicate via data bus lines. some brands of remote starters cant talk to the fortin evo-all via data so it must be wired wire for wire.

Any shop that uses the evo-all can isntall it. some brands work better than others. compustar parted ways with fortin about 3 years ago so there is limited compatability with fortin products BUT compustar and fortin units can be used together, just have to wire it up.
