Arrow Scan tool on the Cheap

Saw this on Mud, and ordered one....don't know anything about scan tools, but it sure makes sense to have it for that price

Amazon.com: HDE® Bluetooth ELM 327 Diagnostics Scanner: Computers & Accessories

Also downloaded an app for my Galaxy S3 that reads it Bluetooth...just sounds really cool.

It should be here today or tomorrow, and I'll report back with the results.

I think for basic scanning and diagnostics it's fine, but it has no CAN or LIN bus support, so there is no way to access the extended vehicle functions (on any vehicle) with one.

Does the software on your mobile phone support access to freeze frame data for DTCs?

Sorry, I can't help but think less of you when you won't take the time to spell things right or use proper grammar. Deal with it. I don't care if you're ESL either, because I am too.

homey, looks like HDE® Bluetooth ELM 327 supports ISO15765-4 (CAN).
Here's a complete list of supported protocols:
ISO 15765-4 CAN,
ISO 14230-4,
SAE J1850 PWM,
SAE J1850 VPW,
ISO 9141-2,
SAE J1939.

Here's an interesting info about an ELM327 chipset I believe used in the unit (however do not know what version: v1.4b or v1.3a)
Elm Electronics Products - OBD ICs

Also this sears page has a better description compare to the amazon page.

FWIW I use this on my 3rd gen specifically because it tells me my tranny temp along with a bunch of other readings. The only part I have struggled with it understanding exactly where each of the factory censors is located.

For example, I have an engine temp reading but I'm pretty sure it's a block temperature reading so it doesn't correlate 1-1 to coolant temp. If I had a way to reference that with the truck schematic I could get a better idea of what is generating heat based on what I'm doing with the truck at the time.

Overall I'm very happy with it for the price!

for 10 bucks it is worth a try, if you have an android phone, there are free programs that work with it, I am on iphone so I had to buy a cable as apple seems to block some bluetooth functions.

Ok..."quick" update..

Plugged right in, BT discovered it right away (using a Samsung Galaxy S3, rooted, w/AKOP ROM) and downloaded the paid app called Torque Pro.

Making a proifile for the truck, but the free app I just tried worked awesome.

God only knows what I'll do with the info...but at least it'll be there if I want to view it.

Thanks all, will report back from the road, with some "realtime" numbers

OBD-10$
App 5$

Bump-a-dump... do you get tranny temps with this combo? Have been looking at ScanGauge, UG, etc and would rather pick this up so I don't have to permanently install something in my rig. More details, please!! : )

It is pretty cool except the Tranny temp doesn't work, and it is in celsius. I sent a message to the Devs, and they they are working feverishly on it, and expect an update soon.

Thanks for the reply. Sucks no tranny temp, I know a bunch of people were wanting that feature (mee too, for towing and off roading). Too bad they have no way to add features like SG IIs do. But for the money, can't be picky, right?
