2014 4Runner SR5 Running Boards

There have been discussions in other threads here about running boards. Thought I'd post my findings relevant to the 2014 4Runner SR5. Hopefully it will help others.

I just bought a 2014 Toyota 4Runner SR5. Have spent a couple of days looking for regular running boards. Neither Owens - Lund - ATS - Dee Zee or Westin have aftermarket boards for a 2014 4Runner SR5. n-Fab claims to have a set, but my wife did not like the looks of them. I didn't care much for them either. In my opinion they would look OK on a vehicle that's seen a lot of mud wars. My new ride is not quite there yet. You have to be careful when looking at the aftermarket selections, especially if for a 2014 4Runner SR5. The listing will say "for 2010 - 2014", but if you dig deeper, in some case you'll learn that the 2014 offering is only for the 2014 4Runner Limited. Beware!

Toyota bolted rocker brackets under the 2010-2013 models(some anyway). You would remove their bolts, then fasten the bracket that came with the running boards to that existing bracket.

With the 2014 SR5 - the "existing" bracket is no longer there. Just 3 groups of bolts - 2 in each group on both left and right side of vehicle. This is likely why so many aftermarket providers have yet to produce a board for the 2014 4Runner SR5. Design changes required.

I found that Southeast Toyota Distributors - Toyota distribution for the S. E. part of the U. S. sells a set of running boards(not nerf bars) to dealers in that area - SC/GA/FLA/etc. For the 2014 4Runner SR5 - the part number is 00016-89004. Dick Dyer Toyota - Columbia S. C has them on eBay for about $399 - shipping included. The current eBay item number is 161246689273. Other S. E dealers get $499 + shipping. Here's some information on that part number:

http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/017...0016-89004.pdf

Gulf States Toyota(Houston Tx) has a set for the 2014 4Runner SR5 for $746.35 - available thru Cavender Toyota in San Antonio, Tx. This is but one dealer. Just using them as a pricing example. The part number is 00012-R1473-02. I've yet to find an eBay offer for this part number.

The best price I've found so far has been with a Toyota dealer in Bremerton Washington near Seattle. $385.90 + shipping - UPS ground. Here's a link to that item. Part number PT925-89140.

Further clarification on dealer part numbers - cross reference - I realize many prefer aftermarket, but for the 2014 SR5, running board choices; not nerf boards, are limited a/o this time. Pertains to 4 Runner. You can google either the PT*** part number or the 000** part number. Different online parts sellers carry them and the price varies. Beware of inflated shipping charges. One online Toyota dealer in Victorville CA wanted $153 to ship to the middle of the U. S ! His board price was attractive until the shipping fee popped up. You may also find these on eBay from time to time. The eBay sellers tend to have more realistic shipping fees, but the boat does move slower. Can take 10-14 days in some cases to get them going this route. One dealer on Daytona Fla told me that if he keyed in a PT*** part number it automatically switches to a 000** part number.

PT925-89110 = 00016-89040 - fits 2010-2013 and 2014 Limited - does not fit 2014 SR5 and I'm told will not fit 2014 Trail

PT925-89140 = 00016-89004 - fits 2014 SR5

Received Toyota part number 00016-89004 yesterday from Dick Dyer Toyota - Columbia, S. C. - $436.00 parts and shipping. Shipped on a Thurs. evening - arrived on a Tues around noon - FedEx. Required only a 10mm/12mm/13mm socket and ratchet. Simple install using existing bracket mounting holes.

Here are a couple of photos of what they look like installed on a 2014 4 Runner SR5. Click on photos to expand size:

That is great info and im hoping to piggy back on it a little bit since i just went through the same thing. Having done quite a bit of research prior to getting my Nfabs last week. i will share my findings and hope they help others out also. From what i have seen the 10-13 sr5 boards will fit on a 14 with out issue as the bolt pattern is the same on all models the only variation is in the skirts. As we have seen in the 10-13 trails the skirts where very small in size in comparison to the large skirts of the sr5 and limited. When i really got into looking knowing that the skirts had vanished from the 14sr5's i started looking for boards that would fit the 10-13 trails. I was worried about the spacing that would show up. I wanted something that would fit nice and tight. This issue was confirmed for me last week when i saw a black 14sr5 in town with what i can assume are the running boards from a 10-13sr5 as there was a large gap from the skirt to the board where it would have fit around the skirt. i was not fast enough to go grab pictures as we where at the gas station. But i shall keep my eyes open.

As for the 14s i would stay away from anything that says sr5/limited only as they are most likely the 10-13 version of the board. A lot of manufactures are not aware of this change as of yet, n-fab was not as of a few weeks ago.

Broaden your search to the 10-14 trail if you have a 14sr5 and you will get better results and fit in my opinion. Here are my 10-14 trail only nfabs installed on my 14sr5 with no modification needed and about 30 mins of time. Nfabs on a 14sr5

Thanks.

The nFabs you linked to look very much like the ones I saw at their WEB site the other night. That set has more of a nerf bar look, though beefier than most. Wife wanted wider running boards for better stability like the set in my last URL.

It's a matter of time before Dee Zee/Westin and others get on board.

I can confirm that these fit on a 2014 SR5 that does not have the lower rocker skirts. Bolts directly on. There is a gap from the step the bottom of the rocker, but it's not enormous. The "SR5" version of the same thing hangs waay too low.

Any gap?

Lester,

I am in the same position you were in. I am looking to get some running boards for my wife's 2014 SR5.

It looks like you got the the 'PT925-89140 = 00016-89004' which seems to be the easiest to find. They are on ebay here 2014 Toyota 4Runner Running Boards | eBay

I just want to make sure that there is not a gap between the bottom of the doors and the running board. It is hard to tell from the pics you posted.

Also, I believe that part number 00012-R1473-02 is actually a different running board. I found them talked about here OEM Running Boards on 2014 4Runner SR5

I would love to get my hands on the 00012-R1473-02 but I have no idea how to get them and it seems that they are quite pricey. My contact at my local toyota dealer couldn't even find that part number. I am in South East Toyota's area, being in Florida.

I will probably end up getting the ones you got from Dick Dyer's ebay listing. Just wanted to know if yours ended up having any kind of a gap.

Thanks for your post. It was a great jumping off point. Looks like you were going through this in March. In my research I haven't found that much has changed.

Yes - I have part # 00016-89004. A parts mgr. at a Toyota dealership in Daytona Beach Florida told me that if he were to key in PT925-89140 it would be converted by his Toyota parts system to 00016-89004. It would seem they are one in the same. 00016-89004 is available from SE dealers. They source their parts through Southeast Toyota Distribution. I purchased mine off ebay from Dick Dyer Toyota in Columbia South Carolina.

A local dealer told me that he can get 00012-R1473-02. His parts come thru Gulf States Toyota. The price difference between 00016-89004 and 00012-R1473-02 is huge in my opinion, but I have to admit I have never seen 00012-R1473-02. If you wanted those boards it would seem you would have to buy them from a Toyota dealer in Arkansas-Louisiana-Mississippi-Oklahoma-Texas.

My 00016-89004 boards have a black rubber strip that fills the gap. One person here referred to them as "fuggly". I personally think they look good. I believe some people are confusing functionality with appearance. The 00016-89004 boards have a "slim" profile. Stepping up on them with your tip-toe might be challenging for a man with a sizable foot. My wife wear business suits and heels to work and plants her foot parallel to the board. I've watched her do this many times and she seems to have no problem with getting in the vehicle using this approach.

I will add that the ebay sellers all seem to have reasonable shipping rates. One dealer in southern California wanted $158.00 to ship the boards the same distance as the dealer I bought them from. My ebay seller charged something like $35-$40 shipping.

I googled the part number found at the site you posted and came up with this:

Amazon.com: Genuine Toyota Accessories PT938-89100 Running Board: Automotive

It seems to verify what you found.

The Toyota OEM World you ref. is a Toyota dealership located on an island just west of Seattle. I believe it's an island. You are nearby and therefore may get a reasonable quote on shipping. They wanted to charge me $85 for shipping, but I'm much farther away than you are.

I am in the same boat as some of you. I prefer the all black boards that come on some of the Trail Editions. I called about a month ago and spoke to someone at oempartworld and they said that these will NOT fit a 2014 SR5.

I don't really understand why they won't work unless something underneath is different. The 14 TE and SR5 no longer have that extra piece of body moulding so it seems like it would work. I wonder if anyone has actually tried it or if they are just relying on what their computer says.

Lester,

Thanks for googling that, I forgot to check out some other sites as i was sure that oemparts was cheaper than everywhere else. Amazon is pretty close to the price with shipping. Actually $1 more.

So i was checking out the dealership and they had a 4runner that was all blacked out. TE roof rack and im guessing TE running boards. Can anyone confirm that thats a TE running board in this pic.

Those boards looks like the one my dealer install on my 14 trail. Those are the rigid boards that 10-13 trail has as an option, because 10-13 trail doesn't have the bottom rocker like the sr5 and limited have. But from what I know 14s sr5, trail, doesn't have the bottom rocker.

pics don't match part ##?

So i called the dealer ship from the pic i posted and they gave me part number PT92589140.

Found this on Amazon
Amazon.com: Genuine Toyota 4Runner Running Board Set PT925-89140. Black. 2014 SR5 Models Only.: Automotive

And this is oempartworld
Running Boards SR5 14-14 4Runner

Maybe they posted wrong pic just because it looks like a limited 4runner. Just need to call oempartworld to confirm that its all black without the chrome on the edges.

Yeah, those look like the Rigid running boards to me as well. It's hard to tell from that image. I'm still trying to decide if I'm going with NFabs or the OEMs. I'd like to get some Budbuilt sliders, but I don't think I can afford them.

What kind of tires are those in the picture? Duratracs? Those wheels look awesome!

Wheels were Rockstar II with Duratracs. Dealer built some pretty nice looking 4runners but all the mods on it were pricey.
