I see from that picture that they're putting the model name in a piece of plastic over the rear license plate, just like the Highlander and the Sequoia.
I still have my fingers crossed that the 4Runner will be more distinctive than the RAV4/Highlander/Sequoia/Land Cruiser body style.

What a little tease that is.

I've been waiting for this thing to come out since more than a year ago, and I probably won't get a first year, but can't wait to see how it looks and how it's really equipped.

I think I know how you feel, I havent been waiting quite as long, but I am going to be buying one of the first ones out. I have been nursing a 200k+ 2 door honda for the last year. Sure its fun to drive on the road, but my dog can even fit in the back seat now. I started shopping for a new car 8 months ago, and was going to buy a current 4runner until the sales man mentioned a change for next year, I have been looking online almost daily since that day for more news.
Even though its just one close up of the butt, it gave me a chill to see something real official on toyota's website.

Last, thanks to all of you who have been posting information on here over the past months, you kept me waiting instead of settling.

I also hope that it looks more distinct than their "generic" line. I wasn't a fan of the 4th gen body style. I would be superstoked for an updated 3rd gen look, maybe more angular. we will see. keep your fingers crossed.

x2. I bet you that those Toyota guys are laughing their butts off....

It does seem like Toyota monitors or knows about THIS forum...so, i am sure that they know how much anticipation the 5th gen is.

I just notice that the 2009 Hilux Surf is not in the list anymore in this Toyota Japan website:
http://toyota.jp/index.html
The 2009 Hilux Surf was always there and the last time I checked was last week. I can't read japanese, but there was a customizer for the hilux surf. I think this website will leak the appearance of the new 4Runner since it should be the same with the hilux surf in which previous models have turbo diesels where their marketing targets are asian, south east asian and arab countries.
There are 6 SUV's in Japan, 7 including the Harrier Hybrid(RX?)

You're right. I was looking there also but now the link is gone. They must be updating it.

Also, that pic of the name on the rear lift gate in the earlier link, with the left end coming to a trapezoid point, plus the other body outlines in the spy shots, leads me to believe we will get something along the current styling cues. My guess is the T4R will not be "more distinctive than the RAV4/Highlander/Sequoia/Land Cruiser body style." That is the styling on all the current SUV redesigns so why would they make the T4R any different? They have done the same with the car lineup; all taking the same cues.

Generally when you get this excited about something, it turns out to be a let down.

I went and drove a 2009 Land Cruiser yesterday, niiiccceeee.

x2. I don't see it being any different, but I do like the tailgate on the sequoia.

That will be a disappointment. 5 SUVs all looking the same just a different size. But that does go inline with there color choices. 5 colors between white and black and then red. Try green again, or a rust color. Somthing different would be nice. Most 4Runners I see are some shade of silver.

And if you are a 5th Gen owner, and got banned in a 4Runner forum, A few inch suspension drop will make you qualify to register in a Hilander Forum
I love the 4th Gen style

Then, put a spare tire on the back door and you'll have a RAV4!

I'd be really disappointed if the 4Runner looked like the others, but not totally surprised.

I noticed that over a week ago now. I figured they took it off due to 2009 model year cycle being over, but not yet having the 5th gen available.
