Resetting MAINT REQD light?

I can't find it anywhere in the F manual. How the hell do we turn the 5k nag light off?

Ah. Found it. Page 493. You have to have the ODO set at Trip A before the trick will work.

Now if I can just figure out how to turn off the seatbelt dinger. It says in the manual it is customizable but doesn't say how.

try this. works on tacoma's so more than likely....

1) Turn the Car 'ON', but do not start the engine (Leave your foot off the brake). Cycle your trip reset knob until it reads ODO. Turn the ignition back off. Wait a couple of seconds.
2) Make sure seat belt is not fastened
3) Turn the ignition back on, do not start the car (Leave you foot off the break) As soon as you see everything light up, press and hold the trip reset knob and do a long 12 second count.
4) Keep your finger on the trip reset knob. Fasten your seat belt, as soon as you fasten your seat belt, you should see the ODO display go from XXXX miles to "b-on". At that time take your finger off the trip reset knob and press it again. It should cycle to "b-off". You should be all set and turn the ignition off and unfasten your seat belt.

Resetting the Maintenance Light on the 4Runner by bulldog

The maintenance light is programmed to come on at about 7500 miles after last reset. It will actually start to stay on longer after starting at about 5000 miles after the last reset.

Here are the simple steps to reset it yourself if you do your own oil changes, or if the dealer forgets to do it.

TSB EL002-03 has these instructions:

1. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position
2. Set odometer/trip display to "ODO" mode
3. Turn ignition switch to "OFF" position
4. Depress and hold the Trip Meter "RESET" button while turning the ignition switch to the "ON" position
5. The service maintenance reminder light will:

i. Illuminate solidly for 3 seconds
ii. Blink for 2 seconds
iii. Illuminate solidly for 1 second
iv. Turn off

6. Release the Trip Meter "RESET" button
7. Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position
8. Turn the ignition to the "ON" position and confirm that the service maintenance reminder light goes out.

This is for the 4th Generation 4Runner...but I hope it's the same.

My 2007 Camry's procedure is almost the same...but I have to put it on Trip A before I do it.

Now that the recommended service level is 10,000 miles with the 2010 Four Runners, I wonder if there is a way to adjust the reminder so that it doesn't come on early?

There must be a new updated manual as I looked online at the owners manual thru Toyota's and it's on page 501 now.You can sign up thru Toyota to view the manual online by clicking on the OWNERS LINK on the Toyota website.Anyways here is exact wording copied from manual.I doubt they will change the light coming on at 5000 miles since severe duty ones still should change then plus it's so easy to reset the light.

After changing the engine oil (U.S.A. only)
The engine oil maintenance data should be reset. Perform the following procedures:

FIRST :Switch the display to the trip meter A (→P. 184) when the engine is
running.

Vehicles without a smart key system
Turn the engine switch off.
While pressing the trip meter reset button (→P. 184), turn the
engine switch to the “ON” position (do not start the engine because
reset mode will be canceled). Continue to press and hold the button
until the trip meter displays “000000”.

Vehicles with a smart key system
Turn the “ENGINE START STOP” switch off.
While pressing the trip meter reset button (→P. 184), turn the
“ENGINE START STOP” switch to the IGNITION ON mode (do not
start the engine because otherwise the reset mode will be canceled).
Continue to press and hold the button until the trip meter
displays “000000”.

Very Easy!!

No because you are supposed to get your tires rotated and balanced at 5k. The 10k TSB for 2010s addresses this and states that the 5k nag light will not change.

It's customizable through the Tech-strem computer at the dealership. I haven't even heard the seat belt reminder once. They shut it off before I took delivery.

Wow, can't believe that the 2010 4runner oil change interval is 10k now. Is the oil synthetic oil now? 5-20w?

Yes, the oil is synthetic. It's actually 0w-20. And the interval is actually 5k miles, not 10k for the 2010.

They changed the interval to 10,000 miles for 2010 models that use the 0w-20 (including 4Runner) as of this past December - there is a copy of the service announcement to dealers somewhere on this site, which is where I saw it first.

well my Toyota dealer refuses to turn the seat-belt chime off. They say it is a liability issue. I have a call in to the manager since the manual says it can be done, but we shall see. The issue is that I am in Anchorage and there are no other Toyota dealers here..........

I am already fighting with Toyota about the lack of mudguards (I claim that they are required by law in Alaska) and have brought in the AK DOT + DMW in the mix so I am expecting zero help from Toyota in seat belt chime issue
