Rocky Road Slider Step Mod

Just got my Rocky Road Sliders...and to say the least, Glen and Charlie were awesome to deal with. They look great, and were shipped in a timely fashion. They responded to every kooky email I sent....nice to see good business folks still out there!

Obviously any mod you do to an aftermarket part is at your own risk....so thanks Rocky Road...let's give it a twirl

the first couple of pics are the materials...I got the steel and cleaned it all up...cut it to size ...and with a little grinding will be ready for welding.

I'm outdoors so weather is a factor...but at least the beer is cold!

Got the pieces cut for both and got one fully together, sanded and clamped on the Rocky Road Slider...only problem is I didnt see an instruction sheet for the sliders, so I don't know if I'm mounting it the right way...lol....fawk it..I got a 50% shot of getting it right

I got to be honest....I sure as hell ain't no welder, but buddy, I can cut and grind like there's no tomorrow....I have to see if BFLAN Industries has an opening for a grinder.....

Tomorrow I finish the other one, weld them to the sliders, and prime.

Friday is finish paint, and diamond plate, Saturday install (depending if the paint is dry)

The weight of one step is about 38 lbs....but man is solid!!

The steel is 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" x .120 (1/8")

Project complete.

I have to admit I'm blown away by the ease of installation on the Rocky Road Sliders. Everything lined up perfect, and the finish work was amazing.

Big thanks to Glen and Charlie!

The step sticks out about 6 1/2" and I wouldn't change a thing. It is about an inch out past the farthest point of the wheel well, and several inches less than the mirrors. Anybody pulling up along side too close and opening their doors will regret it. The finished slider step was about 75 lbs a/p.....but a great "armor" addition.

Thanks Mike!

I think it came out to about 3-1/2"-4"....but by the time add a small lift later down the line and level the nose out it'll cut that back by a few inches.

Very happy with it, easy to reach the roofrack now and easier to wash the roof.

6"...but I probably could have gotten away with 5"

It offers great protection to the truck sides, and I've wailed them off rocks several times. At first I was taping them off and respraying them...now I just sand it lightly and brush a layer of satin black on.

Thanks !!
Might get som Shrockworks sliders and they said they could. make them a little wider. Would you say 5" is good enough for an adult to plant a foot?

Another option is, sell me yours, haha :P

I think that should be plenty, I just measured my BB sliders and it's only 4" and change and that's already plenty for me to step on, either with my toes or with the side of my foot.

@Titanpat57 , did you really cut all those pieces with only the chop saw? Talk about accuracy, I can barely cut it straight down with a chop saw, must be the beer, lol.

It wasn't too bad....the worst part was working outside, and we actually had a heatwave those few days...like 40 or so.

I want to put up a garage/shop reaaalll bad..... and she's fighting me tooth and nail...she's afraid she'll NEVER see me....

It gets old being a "backyard butcher"
