USB Error

I did a search and could not find anything about this:

I have a 8GB USB key which I have filled with mp3 (some in folders). When I try to use this with my 4R TE, it just shows USB ERROR on the radio display. Is it possible the radio only accepts so many folders or files on a usb stick before it complains? It doesn't seem like the radio goes deeper than 1 folder either which is a bit of a nuisance.

I think I'll try deleting some folders and also making sure there's no strange characters in the folder names that could be causing the issue. My manual is in the truck outside and it's raining, so I'll maybe check that later tonight as well to see if there's any info on the limitations the stock unit may have.

I do not have the nav unit, just the regular stock radio.

It has to be formatted in old school FAT32 before putting the music on it.
Ya , I know FAT32 formatting was from back in Windows 98....go figure.
Here's a good read on it..... How to use a usb hard drive for music

Yup, already got it formatted as fat32. I'm going to experiment some more to see if I can find out why it's not working.

my first response was going to be to make sure its' formatted in FAT32, since i doubt the t4r can read NTFS. hmm, i doubt the size is an issue as i've read lots of members are using 80 plus gig drives on their runners.

are these folders at the root of the drive? Meaning F:\Rollingstones\songs, etc?

Are these straight MP3's? No DRM? Where did you get them from? Amazon? or did you rip them yourself?

Take ten minutes to read the manual. It'll be far more helpful than "experimenting".
