For those who want to know....

I know there's already a thread about 20x9 wheels, but for some reason some owners don't know their aftermarket wheel specs and can't provide help to others that are interested in upgrading. So, I decided to start a new thread in hopes to help those in need.

Finally my wheels arrived after 8 weeks of waiting and wrapped my 275/55/20 Hankook Dynapro ATM Rf10s on them this morning (they were on the OEM 20s). Wheel specs are as follows and I have no rubbing issues in the fender well or with the suspension components even with the wheels at full lock. I think they look great (i may be biased:D)

Ultra Wheel - Gauntlet - Matte Black
20x9"
Offset +18
BS 5.71"

Hope this helps. Next is a lift and chrome blackout! Oh, and I'm selling the OEM 20s if anyone is interested. Pics below:

I think i finally found the wheels i want to buy! these looks sweeet. I just gotta figure out what size. dammit!

It comes with license plate and hi-lift mounting points. It has an angled pass-through receiver which helps preserve the departure angle but also allows me to attach my receiver shackle. It folds down to allow full use of the liftgate without removing any parts

Nice setup, I want someting similar in the future. What with the licence plate, on your pictures it fully covered by the tire.

I didn't mount the license plate onto the tire carrier when I took these pictures. The plate mounts to the piece that sits just below the tire. It is fully visible when mounted there.

S&S I absolutely love the Ultra Gauntlet wheels, i know you do too..

Right now, i just have the 17 inch sr5 wheels with the dunlops.

I know i want to replace the dunlops, and i know i want to replace the wheels. I think i want to buy the flat black gauntlets...should i buy them in 17 or 20 in?

I Know you mentioned somewhere that the ride was stiffer with the 20s. I know i'm not going to do any crazy offroading like you, so maybe i would be okay with 20s... Right now i have everything stock, and i think it will be that way for awhile. What should i do? What else do i need to consider?

EDIT: hmm...

You can get a stiffer or softer 17inch tire, (OEM has pretty soft side walls) depending on desire. Difficult to get much of a range with a 20inch. They are going to be stiff and stiffer. So if you want more choices, get the 17 inch. I suspect you are going to get a better then OEM passenger load tire anyways, but my suggestion is to get at least a 6 ply Light Truck tire in a 17 inch. You wont be sorry.

hmmmm....dammit. but the 20s look cool! haha. I gotta figure out what i want. And yes, i would buy a much better tire than my stock dunlops

Tough decision for sure. Keep in mind I had two sets of tires on the 20" gauntlets, Hankook Dynapro ATs and Nitto Trail Grappler MTs. Very different tires when it comes to performance on and off road. It really comes down to what you want to get out of truck and how you want it to look. Since you plan to keep your truck stock for a while, keep thinking about it until you're ready to move forward. I will say that I am extremely happy with my current wheel/tire combo and I'm even happier I decided to make that change.

Rear tire carrier update....

After almost a couple months since receiving my tire carrier and taking it offroad a few times it has and will continue to serve me well for what I wanted. However, as Seattlemike eluded to, I also felt the tire was too far away from the body of the truck so CBI fabricated a new bottom piece to ensure I was satisfied with their product.

Basically, they shaved off 2-3" lengthwise of the bottom piece bringing the rear of the vertical arm closer to the truck by the same distance. It looks much better than before but will never be as close to the body of the truck as having a new rear bumper with integrated tire carrier. They also removed the pass-through receiver portion but I asked them to include a tab so I can attach my 3/4" clevis shackle for recovery purposes. The new piece did not affect the fold-down ability of the rear tire carrier.

I'm happy they continued to work with me to give me exactly what I wanted. Here's a couple pics of the new setup.

Looks great!!!

Good for you to take this on and have something made that fits your needs so well. I am sure that many people will be following in your footsteps. This is the most practical solution I have seen for a full size tire carrier without the need of an aftermarket bumper.

After 12k miles on the 20" Gauntlets and Trail Grapplers, I had to sell them. As expected, they performed great off-road. It was the on-road characteristics that finally led me to move on. The large rim and short sidewall made for a very stiff ride. Not jaw shattering but rough on every little bump/crack in the road. At highway speeds (>50 mph) there was a loud howl and depending on the road surface the intensity increased dramatically. One of the benefits of the lower profile was how great the truck handled the road. Great response and they gripped well when cornering at fast speeds. Tires drove well in the rain and snow too.

I knew what I was getting into with the 20s and lower profile MTs, but when enough is enough, time to get new meats! I sold the 20s and Trail Grapplers last week to my coworker who owns a Tundra and installed 295/65R18 Duratracs on Gauntlets (love this wheel too much). Overall diameter of the Duratracs is bigger plus I get much needed sidewall. I had 4 goals for making this change:

1. Increase on-road comfort -- Accomplished. The difference is night and day. Much of it has to do with the increased sidewall as it provides more area to absorb road imperfections. Also, Duratracs are ATs so the tread pattern is more conducive for on-road driving. My truck rides so much smoother.

2. Reduce road noise -- Virtually eliminated. Again, these are ATs so that is to be expected but I had concerns that the tread depth (18/32) would produce noise like the 19/32 tread depth of the Trail Grapplers. The Duratracs do hum a little which I like, but don't produce the howl at highway speeds.

3. Make my truck look more rugged -- The beefier tire due to smaller wheel diameter and increased sidewall height gets this done. I love that the Duratracs look like MTs with its tread pattern and depth, and aggressive sidewall. I don't know if any members have Duratracs on Gauntlets but they look just as bad@ss to me as my old setup. The beefier tire also seems to fill the wheel well better too.

4. Increase off-road capability -- The smaller wheel and increased sidewall height allows me to explore more difficult terrain now. I can also air down more to increase the tread contact area. Based on other members who have shared their off-road experience with Duratracs, I can't wait to hit the trails!

In the end, you learn from your experiences. I'm happy I was able to experience rolling on 20s with mud tires and I learned they weren't for me and for what I want to further experience with my truck. I couldn't be happier with my new setup, it only took me three tries to get it right! :lmao:

Thank you so much for this write up. Have been flipping back and forth from 18's to 20's for the wife's SR5. This just sealed the deal on the 18's. Any opinions on 285/65 VS 295/65?

I'm rocking the 20's here on my K5 with 35X12.5/ 20 mud graps. I can definitely feel the road, but with 4 leaf springs it's not going to be a Caddy. Just found a full coilover front conversion but it's 4k.

The 295s will be approximately 0.5" greater in section width and overall diameter, IMO not enough to notice a difference in the tire's driving performance or visual appearance.

^^^ Thanks for the reply! Going to order wheels/ tire/ lift tomorrow. I have the Nfab steps already. Gonna cut the rockers and de-chrome.

Projector Retrofit

It was time to move on from my 6K HID PnP kit to a legit HID projector retrofit. I scored my goods from TRS and had them shipped directly to Lightwerkz.

The finished product is extraordinary! Pictures do no justice to what Lightwerkz can produce when you actually see it in person (both fit and finish, and light output). I wanted my headlights to be unique but remain as OEM looking as possible. This is the setup I chose:

Projectors: OEM Lexus RX330 (single xenon)
Lens: TSX-R clear
Ballasts: OEM Lexus/Toyota Denso 35w
Bulbs: Phillips 85122+ D2S (4300K)
Shrouds: Apollo

Beam cutoff is sharp and colorful (purple/blue). Intense light output. Beam spread is focused, wide and deep. Beautiful color flicker.

Shrockworks....

Front winch bumper with center hoop only. Flat black, textured powder coat finish including washer reservoir skid (will most likely paint the front skid too). Headlight trim pieces painted to match body color.

Snow&Surf,
Awesome rig! Great choices on the mods, definitely one of the coolest 5th gen Ltd's I've seen. I'd like to take my '11 Ltd in the same direction in a year or so when I get tired of (near) stock.

I went with Lightwerkz for my HID conversion (bixenon FXRs+5000K+Densos+fogs) as well and can't say enough good about them. The completed lights look so professional and light output is unreal. I have silverstar ultra's in the high beam sockets (they light with along with the bi-xenon in high beam mode) and they absolutely pale next to the HID's.

Shrockworks Front Bumper Mod

I made a minor modification to the 1" thick tabs for the D-ring shackles because they made clanking noises. Maybe the shackles offered by Shrockworks don't clank around but I got my shackles for much cheaper than they were selling them.

For this mod I purchased 3/4" neoprene grommets from Home Depot and sliced it in half. Place one half on each side of the 1" tab on the bumper and slide the D-ring over the grommet (this takes a little patience to line it up right). The arrows are pointing at the grommets. Once lined up, screw the pin in (will be a little tight) and voila.....zero clanking noise!

I did this mod back in Nov 2011 a couple a days after I installed the bumper and have been very happy with the clank free result. I wanted to post this up back then but have been extremely busy with work and life. After this minor mod, I made the biggest and best mod for my truck I will ever make......my wife and I purchased a brand new home!!! Now I have a garage to park my truck in and keep it safe (yes, it fits inside even with the snowboard racks on). Suffice to say, most of my modding now will be for my house but I'm glad I got my truck exactly how I want it.....for now :biggrin2:

I was able to remove the foglight bezels by taking off the plastic cover over the radiator and reaching down behind the headlight. It is a tight sqeeze, but I am a big guy and my fat arm fit. Took much less time that attacking from underneath.

Congrats on home ownership! Your lucky to be able to fit into the garage with your snowboard rack on, I have to mount and dismount mine every time I wanna park my truck in my garage. Small price to pay for the truck to sleep inside. LOL!

Love your truck man! Great look. I have two quick questions for you:

1. Is Demello Offroad still carrying the sliders you put on? Mind telling me how much you got them for? I might give them a call if they are still making them.

2. I am definitely going to copy you wheel/tire combo. Your truck has a great stance (I am putting on an Icon Stage 5 soon). I know your tires are 295/65R18 Duratracs. But could you give me the exact info of your Ultra Gauntlets? (spacing/offset ect.)

Thanks!
