how to keep the fog lights on with high beams
If anyone is interested in keeping their fog lights on with the high beams...all you have to do is ground the pin shown in the pic below.
Grounding this wire will make your fogs stay on with high beam...but makes the switch on the stalk non-functional ;) I dont care, if my lights are on...i want my fogs to be on...and stay on with high beams...I never have a reason to turn them off. They will still turn OFF when you turn your lights off. But if your lights are on, then so are the fogs ;) However, you can wire this to a factory style switch (i will do this) if you want to be able to turn this feature off (thanks to iForce for the part number) Switch Part #: 84160-04010 (~$64 US or $80.38CDN) Connector Part #: 90980-11090 (~$3.38 US or $4.25CDN) -- from this thread that way, when the switch is off, everything works as it does from the factory....then you can hit the switch if you want the fogs on with your high beams ![]() this is a very SIMPLE mod, VERY EASILY reversable (just take off the wire), and is NOT a complicated major electrical modification....no splicing or anything, just ground one pin of the fog light relay...there is no danger at all...what would happen? the wire might GROUND OUT?! uhhh...since thats what you are doing in the first place there is no danger!

That is an interesting mod, but there is a better way to do it.
If you supply the factory switch with power from the parking light circuit, you will be able to control the fog lights from the factory fog light switch as usual, but they will remain on with the hibeams on as well. Or you can turn the fog lights on without using the headlights, as long as your parking lights are on. It's as simply as supplying the fog light switch with power from the parking lamp circuit. If you leave your headlights on (and foglights), everything will still turn off with the auto-off headlight feature.

thats another good way
without the extra switch...nice to know ![]() where do you tap into the factory switch? is the wiring easy to get to? I think i might just leave it grounded all the time.... If my lights are on, I want all of them to be on...I cant think of a time I'd want to have my lights on without the fogs on.

I'm planning on doing it soon, so I'll post a write-up for anyone else who would like to do it too. It should be as easy as locating the wire under the dash (near the steering column) and tapping 12V from the parking lamp circuit to the control side of the circuit. Piece of cake!

posting a better pic is really the only thing I can do (the other one was with my cell phone)
standing at the driver's side wheel well, ground the top right pin of the fog light relay (the pins make a "T") You can ground it to the battery terminal or to the ground screw right there next to the fuse box. You dont have to use a wire that long *haha* thats just what I was using to make sure it worked properly. All this does is prevent the fogs from getting the "turn off" signal when the high beams are turned on...very simple...try it...if you dont like it (i have no idea why you wouldnt) you can always just pull the wire out

By grounding that pin, it no longer loses the ground when the high beams come on, therefore, keeping the fogs on

I'm curious as to why Toyota did not want the fog lights on with the high beams. Is it possible that together the combination would draw too many amps from the alternator?
Some people who put in HID lights must install relays to avoid burning up the wiring harness and a higher output alternator so they don't drain the battery while they are on. Anyone know what the output is of the standard alternator? What is the wattage of the high beams and the fog lights? Brian

In addition if you think about it "fog lights" are supposed to to increase visibility through rain, fog and snow. They do this by producing a short, wide & low beam pattern which reduces light reflected back at the driver. As far as the manufacturer is concerned why would you need this with the high beams? |

yes...the factory doesnt see a need for 'fog lights' on with your high beams...if you need the fog lights for fog, then you wouldnt have your high beams on anyway
![]() plus, some places might have a low stating how MANY lights you can have on the front legally....but if I have my high beams on, NO ONE should be in front of me...so no one will see if my fogs on or not ![]() the whole purpose of this is to give me THE MOST light when my highbeams are on (like to help see deer on dark 2-lane roads in the middle of the night)

I tried doing this mod, but it did not work? I pulled the relay and wrapped one end of the wire around the flat pin you indicated then ran it out to the same spot you had yours to ground it, but it did not come on when I tested using my high beams. Any ideas why?
