Lightbulb Ultimate Scion Headunit (stereo) thread

I've been looking for a central resource for the Scion head units with no success.

After hours of searching on 4Runner and other Toyota forums, I've created a master list of all the head units (at least the ones I could find information on) and their capabilities. I'n sure I'm still missing information about each head unit, so feel free to post any udpates you know about and I'll be happy add them to the list.

I'd like to eventually get pics of each of the units as well (front and back), so if you have a particular unit, send me the image link and I'll post it as well.

The T1804 (Part# 08600-21800)

The T1805
  • 6-disk version of the 1804
  • has the color changing LCD.
  • CD player in this unit is know to have problems, especially if shipped incorrectly.

The T1806 (Part# PT546-00080)

The T1807
  • '05 - '06 base model
  • volume knob at center, with buttons on the sides
  • plays MP3s and WMAs
  • Aux input
  • no ipod ability
  • has Aux connection via harness (not sure if it’s the same as the 4Runner harness)
  • Aux button on face

The T1808
  • the current base model
  • similar features to the 1806, but it has a new control layout
  • Aux input unclear (some on the 4th gen 4runner boards report they can’t get the Aux input to work)
  • added AAC playback.

The T1809 (Part# PT546-00081)

There are no lock codes for ANY of the Scion H/U's.

Scion Ipod Interface Cables & Links to other write ups for the interface cables...

Wow. Wish you would had posted this a week ago before I bought a T1807 thinking it had ipod connectivity and color changing LCD.

Good work. A clean and easy to understand summary.

Thanks. I've been researching this for a couple of weeks because I'm trying to find the best upgrade for my 4Runner.

I think i'm gonna try and find a Premium HU (T1809). It looks like it has everything except the 6 disk changer.

So if all you want is the radio to work, (not the sat and ipod) are all these plug and play for the 4th Generation?

I have an 1807 that was a "drop in".

From what I've been able to find, they are all plug and play (of course I'm not an expert, just a data aggregator ).

The links to the info on the iPod cables were truncated when posted. Is there a way you can repost the full link?

Will any of these work for a 2003?

Update: Sourced a T1808 on CL for $60 and the guy was local.

I've got a 2003 Sport without JBL.

Plug and Play! Sound quality is heaps better. Steering wheel controls jump through presets now instead of browsing through stations.
I don't have an aux jack so I can't comment there. iPod cable is on the way. Also looking at an integrated bluetooth module too.

If I had one complaint it would be that the orange doesn't match the rest of the interior lighting.

Also, when reassembling, leave the 2 bolts on the side of the head unit a little loose. When you put the front bezel on you can center the radio in the opening and then tighten the bolts.

Subscribed. Very interested in this since I too want to upgrade my head unit. How much does the Scion unit go for? Are you buying new from Toyota or used from e-bay or such? Thanks.

Hey guys, I have an 05 sr5 4runner with the stock headunit. I am a bit confused about some of the terms used here. I would love to connect my ipod to my stereo through the ipod dock connector, and it seems like a used scion HU might be the way to go. What exactly is the harness, though?

I don't necessarily even want to control my ipod with the head unit, I am just considering an upgrade from the tape adapter (and hopefully a cleaner look than having cables all over the place).

Thanks for the help.
