Install Instructions: C4 Fab Rock Sliders

If you are installing a fuel tank skid with the sliders or already have a tank skid, the sliders will need to be installed first, then the tank skid will fit on top of the rock slider frame mounting plate.

Here is the link to the install instructions on our website: http://www.c4fabrication.com/wp-cont...stallation.pdf

For all of you guys with KDSS systems, we have not had access to a KDSS 4runner yet to do an install and take photos. Basically the sliders install the same as the regular sliders. The only difference is that you need to un-bolt the KDSS hydraulic lines from the side of the frame rail and pull them away from the frame far enough to fit the rock slider frame plate up behind them. Then the KDSS lines get bolted back into the same location as before using the 8mm bolts provided by us.

Here is a good link with pictures for the KDSS guys: How to: Install Rock Sliders with KDSS

I know you posted these about a month ago and seeing the installation prior to buying is super helpful. Just in the process of convincing my accountant (aka the wife) that I need these. Keep me/us informed on the next time you're doing discounts or any type of specials!

Here are some photos of a few additions we have made to the frame mounting plates. The plates now wrap around under the frame to provide a stronger mounting plate and more bolt locations.

For the passenger side forward frame mounting plate that attaches to the transmission cross member, you will need to drill two holes for the thread cutting screws to thread into.
-You will want to perform this step last.
-Once the slider is all bolted into place and tightened down, drill a 5/16" hole through the cross member at each hole location on the mounting plate.
-Once the holes are drilled, you can use a drill with a 9/16" socket attached to it to thread the 3/8" thread cutting screws into the frame. Spraying a bit of WD-40 or tap lube onto the bolt first will help it thread into the frame smoothly.

Almost Got It

Hi,

I have nearly completed the install of the sliders on a 2016 TE with KDSS. Bit of a challenge actually just time and patience. Do you have a photo of where the drivers side front flange meets the hydraulic line guard? This would really help me get a visual of final alignment. All is looking great and I can provide some pics of install along the way if needed.

Got It

The sliders are now installed on my 2016 TE with KDSS! Key was removing the hydraulic line factory skid plate. This allows you to align the slider and get that first bolt in place on the front mounting plate. Once you have a few bolts in both the front and rear mounting plates then reinstall the hydraulic line skid plate. From there it's relative easy.

Another note once you remove that hydraulic line skid plate there's a steel tab that must be flattened or cut off. I found it easier to simply cut the tab off. Last note if a few of the mounting plate holes don't line up you may need to lightly grind down the weld from a few high spots on the frame (not slider) for proper alignment of the mounting holes.

The sliders look awesome, function perfectly as a step, and based on the design and fabrication appear to be extremely functional in protecting your truck from rocks.

Glad you got it figured out! Sorry I didn't respond sooner, I wasn't getting notifications from this thread.

Tip to others (w/ stock skids):

- Between step 2 and 3, remove 3 bolts from the stock skid on the side you're working on that align with the holes in the frame plate of the sliders *before* starting the first bolts of the sliders.

Else it'll be a pain trying to get the bolts nearest the front undone.

- Then the frame plate of the sliders will go under between the frame rails and stock skid.

Ask me how I know...

I was wondering the skid plate for the KDSS do you need to cut it so that I can install the slider and than put it on???

you do not need to cut any of the KDSS skid plates. The only thing you need to do is hammer the little bent tabs on the ends of the KDSS skid plate so they flatten out before putting the skid back on.

I bent mine out. Also had issues reinstalling it at first since the flap piece on the slider wasn't bent enough. What helped was to skip the KDSS skid plate first and then bolt down the flap then undo one of the bolts and then bolt down the KDSS skid plate.

Yep. There will be a gap when you put the plate over it. All you'll need to use is a few of the washers that c4fab supplies. Super simple
