Won't start
Just got new
battery last weekend
Yesterday:
spark plugs
spk plug wires
dist cap
rotor
drove it from the mechanics on the highway for 10 miles and stopped for ten min - now it won't start. Nothing.. but there is battery power. (even had a boost from another car - but there is power) - no sound when i turn the key
Any ideas?

Nope
Not a sound.. except a slight clicking sound on the underside of the pass side under the dash (which apparentlyis a starter relay)
Came out this morning and it started right away. My mechanic says that sometimes when starter heat up they refuse to turn over.. not sure but now we cannot recreate the problem.
I asked him to order a new starter for Mon

Sounds like you have a starter that is going south. Even though the battery is new, its worth checking(ie, the cells, load & no load tests, make sure the wax is removed from the + & - stems)it. The truck should not be doing that. Ours has never done that in the 2 years we've had it.

a friend of mine has the same sort of problem, where it wouldnt do anything the first try, second try(after waiting ~5min) it would turn a bit but not start, then 5 min later it would start. he hasnt resolved it yet so let me know how yours turns out, maybe its the same issue. his is also a 1990.

1990 celica
My 1990 Celica did the exact same thing and that starter was half gone - so I think on my 4runner it is a great place to start.

i bet its the starter
nothing happening = fuse / battery
weak start = usually battery
no start or delayed start = usually starter
this is all the crap i have learned the hard way
one trick you can try is next time it wont start, tap the starter with a hammer a few times and try.
if it starts right up, you need a new starter.
