Lifting my 86 IFS

So she finally got a paint job, no more ugly red. She's Rhino lined from front to back and top to bottom, painted black, and clear coated. Now she needs a lift. I have another 86 4runner but I did a sas on it and the lift was easy. This one still has the IFS. I need 4 inches of lift to accommodate the tires I'm putting on. What I plan on doing is a 2" body lift, and a 2" suspension lift using blocks in the back and dropping the lower control arms in the front and leaving the top where they are by making an extension bracket for the differential. Never done IFS lift before so toss in some input please.

How about a Blazeland long travel IFS up front with some new leaf springs minus the lift blocks for the rear? You have good choices in the rear with a spring plus shackle to lift it up. You probably won't like the ride on lift blocks.

Well buying the tires and the paint job have left me strapped for cash. I already have 2" of shackle lift in the back bc if you look at the picture of my truck, you can tell it used to sag about 2". So once I get the new shocksI will already have 2" of shackle lift and I was just going to use a block for the other 1/2" to 1" needed. As far as the front goes, I will be fabbing my own parts, bc 1. Its cheaper, and 2. It will be stronger. All the lift kits I've ever seen are made out of lightweight metal and less than 1/8' thick. I want it to be beefy Up front.

And that's why I reccomended the Blazeland, lift is one thing but lift plus long travel on IFS is the winner IMHO.

Yeah, I looked it up after I posted that and it was pretty beefy. Pretty pricey too, but I guess you have to pay the price for quality. Thanks.

Yeah, depending on what you want out of your IFS rig the long travel is either way too pricey or a steal of a bargain. Seems you already have a "rock crawler" rig now all you need is some long travel on that IFS for your flat out desert running, screaming around East Texas rig.

I want this 4runner to be my versatile rig. Good every day driver, good in the mud and, and still be able to take a pounding on the front axles when needed. I just have this bad feeling with the stock ifs, I feel like i'm going to see it in my rearview mirror one day after hitting a trail too hard. I did some major mudding this weekend though, I'm talking mud that no stock truck should ever endure, and at one time water was coming into my cab I was in so deep. Not once did i get stuck or even bogged. I couldn't believe it, I had the chills you get right when something amazing happens. I guess I'll just save up for the blazeland.

Looks like you want a small / mild suspension lift...
I am also looking into that.
I already have the 2" body lift.
Looking into Sway a Way torsion bars to get a little more up front.
Thinking of adding the left over springs from my '97 spring upgrade to the rear.
