I made another gun rack this weekend. Made for the "Big outings" to the range or to the mountains with friends. Holds 11 long guns. They are held down with velcro straps, and the best idea I can come up with for security is some sort of cable lock through the trigger guards? Any other feasible ideas for a locking mechanism?
I usually secure the beer in my belly!!Without driving drunk, of course, but work time is PBR time for sure, and the cans will come in handy as targets on an outing into the woods!
I am very curious about how the police would react, but it is real laid back here in Montana as far as carrying firearms goes. Only ones who tend to be uptight are the City police. Sheriffs Dept. and Highway patrol are pretty cool Cats.
Far left is a Saiga AK in .308 cal, followed by 2 Saiga AK's in 7.62x39. I also have a Saiga AK platform 12ga shottie not shown here.
I like the idea of the steel rod, but alas, my shotguns are to tall and extend up beyond the bars. I wanted to do that through the trigger guards, but some triggers rest in front of the square tube and some behind it. I really do want to do something more reliable than a cable lock so I don't have to worry about someone with good snippers!
if you do two lateral bars that go over top you could secure them nicely, single pad lock, kinda like the gun racks used in the military. I really like that design and as an avid hunter and shooter would you be willing to shoot me over a blue print of the design?
The cradles are wrapped with Friction tape, the stuff you use on an axe handle or Hockey stick, or a wooden baseball bat. Works great and is just sticky enough to prevent forward-rearward movement.
