ARB Bumper installed

Some of you may already seen my review on ARB Bumper, but I decided to post it here, because I'm getting many questions on the posts and PMs.

Finally after month of waiting till ARB will develop their bumper I got myself one. Actually I didn't wait till ARB starts delivering the bumper for 4Runner. There were two issues. First, I didn't like the way they make

Sorry guys, but I didn't take pictures while I was removing the stock bumper.
I do remember the process and if you have any questions just ask.

First you have to remove the lower grille portion from the bumper. The best ways to do it is use a flat screwdriver and gently remove the grille from front and rear at the same time going from the side to the center.
Then remove plugs from fog lights and turn signals.
Now you have to remove the bolts and clips from the inner fender which attaches to the bumper.
After you done this raise the truck and remove all bolts holding the bumper under the truck.
As soon as you will do this, pull the bumper out. It should go easily.
The next step is to unscrew the bolt which holds the reinforcement bar and remove the bar itself.
Last thing you have to do is to remove side brackets which were holding wings of the stock bumper. Note: do not remove the headlight bolt.

Here you can see the truck with stock bumper removed.

ARB thought about us. They include full hardware package for the installation.
At the time I opened the package, I thought that they bought half of local hardware store. The package includes everything from bolts and nuts to electrical terminals.

First I had to install support brackets. This should eliminate the common problem with ARB bumpers on previous generations. Some earlier bumpers (2nd and 3rd Gen) were just attached to the frame without support brackets and cause breaking under extreme loads while winching.

After it I installed the bumper bracket with reinforcement bar. You can see that it attached to the frame and to support brackets installed earlier.

The bumper didn't have appropriate side skid plates, so I had to use cable-ties to hold the inner fenders.

Meanwhile the bumper was installed and it was looking great.

In those two weeks I finished fabricating skid plates and put some more lights on.

Skids (by the way you can see how perfect they align with my engine skid plate):

Side skid view:

Overall view of the bumper:

I have trimmed the inner fender by cutting triangle pieces with some of the inner fender itself.

Here are the pieces I had to trim:

And the rest of the inner fender I screwed to the side skid:

Here is the side picture. You can see approach angle.

Some people asked me about the instruction on cutting off the piece from the stock bumper and gluing it to ARB.
As I wrote in other post, it's not necessary to do it. There is an another solution.
I took the lower grille portion which I had to unclip when was removing my stock bumper; drill 3 holes in it and then attached it to the frame using 1/8 x 1-1/2 bolts and 1" spacer.

Yes, it was a long time since we met last time. Looking forward to hit some trails with you as well...
The rear bumper guard is mine. I'm fabricating it.

By the way, if someone is interested in this bumper guard or any other fab stuff on my 4Runner, let me now. I made most of the metal work on my truck and can fabricate them for you.

James, would you like to meet on Thanksgiving. Next weekend from Thanksgiving I'm going to my friends place. He owns some land, so I might be wheeling there. I'll ask him if he wouldn't mind to have some extra people there.

All of the images are with OME 3" lift. First pictures with 32" Bridgestone Revos and last ones with 33" GoodYear MTRs.
