does anyone have any experience with 23 Zero?
i am looking for a tent that opens up with skylights but as the mesh insert, its hard to tell from other brands like cvt if this is included. 23zero at least lists it on their description. i don't want to open the side or roof if its going to let bugs in

I have a 23 Zero Litchfield and has the mesh on the skylight. Excellent RTT, I picked one up for a great deal when they first came in on the American market.

I did a lot of research comparing materials and build quality to the high end RTTs like Eezi-awn, Howling moon, etc..
The heavy duty canvas is comparable and its impregnated as well so very waterproof. They also come with a snow tie down kit at least my model did and the annex is a nice touch if you have the whole family. I usually run a couple Oztent stretchers which works nice.
Another thing not often mentioned is the RTT cover, this one has extra room unlike some of the other brands which makes it super easy to zip up and also allows for more storage as well. I keep all my bedding plus 4 pillows and still super quick to close.
The only or if I wanted to change something, I would prefer a different strap system for securing the tent when closed. The one it comes with which is webbing secured by Velcro. I would prefer a HD buckle with more adjustability, however a user could modify if needed.
Overall, the price I paid around 1230 +free shipping, I'd comparably would put these up there with some of the higher end RTTs that run 2.5k and up.

sucky thing about all of them is the closed height. my garage entry is only 7' high, with lift/rack combo I wont fit with RTT attached. ill have to take it down outside and figure out a way to store it

No problem and same dilemma for me too..not leaving my vehicle out in the AZ summer but miss having my RTT up there full time like I did in FL.
One note since I mentioned, UV exposure can do some damage. Check out 303 protectant if you've never heard of, I use inside the rig, RTT cover, exterior plastics, etc.. stuff is awesome! Cheers

Replaced our ARB SImpson III with an Airtop awhile back. Couldn't be happier. Setup time is under a minute and it is wicked comfortable. Getting about 2mpg better as well, which is awesome.
Random dilemma: I actually sold the ARB to someone here locally back in June...They PayPaled me the money and everything. I have been trying to get the guy to come and pick it up ever since...he always flakes out and then I can't get a hold of him for another 3-4 weeks. So basically I have this huge RTT sitting in my front room that I am about ready to sell again.
Never run into a situation like this before...anyone else?

Do you have any idea if the boxed up tent fits in your 4runner? I have to pick mine up from a postal facility, just wondering if i'll need a trailer.

Here is my 2002 with a Tuff Stuff RTT. I can't seem to locate it now but some guy assembled a nice spread sheet comparing many brands on the thickness and type of fabric, zippers, ladders - many different variables. I bought the tuff stuff tent, delivered to my door for $1200, based on that.
Most of these are very similar in the details and are made in China. That's not to say you don't get what you pay for! But I've slept through wicked storms, below freezing, sweltering hot and put over 10,000 miles on with my tent and it's as good as new.

when I tell people I am looking in to getting a RTT the question often comes up "why not just get a regular cheaper tent". why did all of you get RTT's? I am still pretty set on getting one once my rack is delivered, just wondering why everyone else got one.
I've owned most mainstream brands of RTTs over the years, and convenience and comfort are still why I have one now. When my daughter was young, I went back to a ground tent, but kept it good quality (Oztent and Serengeti). Having a 2 year old 7' in the air was troublesome.
Now, I find RTTs very handy when moving from campsite to campsite on a frequent basis. If I'm going to have a main, "basecamp" and explore from there; returning each evening, I'll use the ground tent, as while easy, setting up and taking down the RTT every night in that situation seems inefficient.
RTTs are very comfortable though! And the view can't be beat!

I agree with Hiltopr - super comfy and easy up/down. I've slept through a couple rainstorms that would have inundated any ground tent and come through dry as a bone. There is a certain PITA factor if you want to explore during the day with having to pack it up and down. But it's no more difficult than any ground tent IMO.
