How do you replace the front in the console cup holder on a 1996 Toyota 4Runner

:wtf:How do you replace the front in the console cup holder on a 1996 Toyota 4Runner?

The pull out of the dash cup holder in my 1996 4Runner, well the wife broke off one off the (female) ends on the right side where the (male) end slides into? So it dropped to the floor...

I tried to super glue it but it did not work and Toyota no longer has one so I will try E-bay etc..

But Does any know How the Heck do I remove and replace the Front Cup Holder in my 1996 Toyota 4runner?

I use the cup holder everytime I drive the truck!

Please help! :wtf:

Sorry I can't help but the same thing happened to me, I stayed away from cans and used twist on/off soda, water to avoid spills. I don't drink coffee but the wife does and a big enough foam cup with a taper would still wedge in the holder if the bottom of yours is broken. I wonder if the whole dashboard needs to be removed to replace that holder. Be patient, someone may have the answer and a part.

Most likely you will have to take the front console bezel off to replace the cupholder. It is not hard but there are several steps needed for removal...the arm rest console, shifter bezel have to be moved rearward slightly to get to the front center console. Try to get instructions from a manual it you are not very mechanically inclined.:infidel:

It takes maybe 3 minutes, i've done it at night, you just pull the lever caps off, then the faceplate of the A/C /Heat off, then theres a couple of screws, just dont pull extremley hard on everything and it should come out pretty simply.

Wait for better instructions, i havent been near the truck in over a month as ive been at college.

Got It

I took it to a Toyota Dealer and got a mechanic to come out to the truck and pull off the whole console faceplace all the way down to the E- Brake and he just forced out the old one out the back and clicked in the Repacemtn one and put it all back together for me in under 15 min.

The only tool I saw him use was a Magnetic Screwdriver to remove a few screws in the console.

I gave he $20.00 for his time and it works like new again! :trophy:

Cup holder replacement- no tools required!

Ok, so I found an easy way to replace the cup holder. All I needed was something to push the tabs down on the old cup holder and out it should come.

I used two door shims I had, I guess you could use paint sticks if they were thin enough (about 1/8" thick at the end). I looked at the replacement unit to figure where to push in the sticks, and out pulled the broken cup holder. Easy & fast- maybe 30 seconds to pull the old out and put the new one in. There is no need to take any of the dash apart.

If I can figure out how to add photos I will.

I did this yesterday in the '97 4Runner I'm selling. I took two wooden shims and the broken cup holder came out easy. I then inserted the replacement in. Total time to replace the broken cup holder was less than one minute.

I bought the replacement cup holder at a junkyard for $10.

I looked at a pic and saw where the tabs were and then wiggled in a butter knife on each side of the cup holder. It took a good tug but it came out fine. It sure needed a good cleaning in there.
