GX470 Broken Key Fob Fix

My parents ran into an issue where the key on their GX470 fob began to break out of the plastic remote housing. Rather than trying to swap the key to a new housing (which requires completely destroying the old housing), or getting a new fob entirely (expensive), I designed and made an external brace that holds the key and housing together.

Apparently this is a common issue, so I made a bunch to help out other friends and coworkers.

Not only will this solution repair a broken key fob, but it acts as a preventative measure even if your key hasn't broken yet!

If anyone is interested in these braces, I'm selling them for $12 shipped (continental US only)

The package will include the external key fob brace and the appropriate screw for installing it to your key fob. In addition to the 03-09 GX470 key, this brace will likely fit any of the following keys:

02 Lexus ES300
98-05 Lexus GS300
98-00 Lexus GS400
01-05 Lexus GS430
01-05 Lexus IS300
98-00 Lexus LS400
01-06 Lexus LS430
01-08 Lexus LX470
99-03 Lexus RX300
04-06 Lexus RX330
04-09 Lexus RX350
06-07 Lexus RX400h
02-09 Lexus SC430

PM me to order, or if you have any questions.

Nice. I have programmed one of these fobs for my FJ, and recently noticed that it cracked.

That's a neat idea, how strong is it? I've got a key with the plastic case completely cracked, would this make it as sturdy as a new key, or will it still have some extra flex in it with the brace? How does it attach?

They are made of durable molded plastic, and they're pretty sturdy. They have been tested to fix completely cracked fobs reliably, but of course a repaired key will have slightly more give than a new key just due to the nature of the fracture. The brace attaches with the screw that goes through the back of plastic case into the metal key shank, so it's fastened together securely. Hope this helps!
