SO yesterday I had a few hours free and it was pretty nice out, about 45 degrees here in MA. My 04 v8 4Runner SE is at about 105,000 miles and I decided it was time to replace the spark plugs. I went with the Denso Iridium plugs, they are the stock replacements even though NGK's were in there.
I also cleaned the MAF & Throttle Body. My initial response after a quick ride around the block is that it is more responsive and seems to running a bit smoother, not that anything was wrong before, but its got a little more pep. I didn't get a chance to really drive it because I had to go in and make dinner, but I am excited to hit the road later today.
For anyone that is contemplating doing any of these services yourself, do it! I went to AutoZone and got the best plugs possible for $75, then I got the MAF Cleaner, Throttle Body Cleaner, and Electrical Component Cleaner for another $15. Total spent $90, took just under 2 hours (taking my sweet ass time) and about 4 beers!
Here is a picture of all the old plugs compared to the new plugs. For having 105k on the plugs they actually look good.

Did the old plugs come out easy? My 03 only has 66k miles but I wonder if the plugs will get corroded in place it i do not change them soon. They have never been romoved.
Yeah very easy, stock plugs should run for 100k, my runner was at 105400 when I pulled them, they looked good for 105k IMO but I can def tell a difference with the new ones.

Have you noticed any improvement in gas mileage yet? I'm battling some terrible mileage in mine and I'm thinking about changing the spark plugs (85,000 mi) to see if that helps. I pulled one the other day and it looked pretty normal.

The gas mileage issue could just be the various sensors, or even the brand of gas used. I got a batch of either old gas, or really heavy on ethanol from sunoco, and it dropped to about 15-16 mpg (19-22 normal on the V6). Switched to Hess briefly, put in a can of octane booster, and that brought it back up. Depending on where you live, they may also put some kind of chemicals for winter weather.
If all else fails, try some seafoaming, but be really careful!

I honestly haven't noticed any improvement in gas mileage but the majority of time my truck is running these days, its warming up in the driveway or the garage at work. I can definitely tell a difference in the way the truck idles and it seems a bit peppier. The most drastic difference is how smooth it idles and runs. It accelerates very smooth and you can tell that every cylinder is getting a good spark. I probably should have sea-foamed before I pulled my old plugs. If you are planning on using Sea-Foam. I would absolutely run the cleaner BEFORE you change your plugs.
