03' JBL 6-Disk Changer error on load

I have an 03' 6 disk JBL system that is having problems loading. It says ERROR-1 when I try to load a disk. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions. I have searched the forums to no avail... Thanks,

Jason

I think an error-1 is that the laser is dirty. Have you tried running a cd cleaner through it?

Does it happen on all CDs or just certain ones? Does it allow you to put the CD in and then it spits it out?

More info

I haven't tried cleaning the laser. Thanks for the suggestion. It let's me load the CD's but it just won't play them.

BTW, is there a list somewhere with explanations for the error codes?

Error-3 is that the cd changer portion is stuck. Do a search as some people have taken the radio apart and loosened the stuck component. Another method I've read is to plug the head unit in, and then give it a good shaking and this loosens the internals.

I have fixed the Error 3 by popping open the top of the unt .... plugging it back into the car (w/ the cover still off) ... then manipulating the loader arm with my finger as the unit powers on. This allowed the loader arm to become free from it stuck position --- and my CD player works without any problem now.

I was able to take care of this last night. Thank you guys for all your help. Disc 5 managed to jump it's track and wasn't able to get out of the way of the laser when we were switching to Disc 6. Thank God it worked since our warranty expired 12 days ago. We took it back to the dealer yesterday morning and they couldn't warranty it. The service guy was real nice about it. He said they could fudge the miles on a warranty, just not the time. He said if they had to fix it it would be close to 1k.

I think we should make a sticky on this. Also I was able to download a .pdf on how to take out our radios real easy. It literally took less then 10 minutes to disassemble the console and get the radio out. I can upload the file to put-file.

A lot of us here have used the following removal guide and have found it very helpful : http://www.castulucci.com/projects/carpc/oemnaviaccess/

I must say that I prefer the color pics in catalucci's to the black and white ones of the PDF.

Hey that's much prettier! The B&W was a bit hard, but it still served it's purpose. Is his link a sticky? The Error 3 for that matter is like the "Blue Screen" of Death if you don't know how to troubleshoot it.

I don't think his link is a sticky ...

BTW : Took pics when I was taking my headunit apart to fix a stuck arm and stuck discs if you need it. They can be found in this thread ---> http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showth...threadid=16124

Mine just stopped working. It will not even load cd's. It ejects the cd's that are in there just fine and plays them as well. It say's "loading" but will not take the CD's. It does not give me an error message.

Does anyone have any other ideas I can try...

My JBL 6 CD wont load, eject, or give an error code. When you hit CD it says Wait and thats it. Can I get to the CD's the same way as the single CD. Dealer said $200 to fix. I found some OEM Nav units for like $350-400. Would it be worth getting or just invest in something else.
