How to determine manuacture date from VIN?

My wife and I purchased 2004 4Runner Sport Edition (V6-4WD) in early January 2004. We love the vehicle!

How can I determine the vehicle manufacture date from the vehicle VIN?

I just read that Toyota issued a TSB about a potential crankshaft problem.

If you have had the vehicle in for service at the dealer, they usually put the build date on the invoice, mine does.

Everyone,

Thanks for your help.

I checked the sticker on the driver side door frame. The vehicle build date is "11/03". November 2003, perhaps?

In any case, I called Toyota Customer Assistance Center today and gave them my VIN number. Toyota indicated that my vehicle is not affected by the crankshaft pulley recall.

Any Toyota dealer should will willing to run your VIN and print out a "Build sheet" for you. This is a great reference to have as it lists every single option, sales codes, etc., far more informative than the original sticker and well worth having.
