Well yet another update. It seems the local Toyota doesnt have any experience with 4runners. Not only did it take an hour to swap out the head units but there were a could things they looked over. I think not knowing anything about it i could have swapped it out in less than 30 min easy. The first thing the missed was they pulled the gas door lever instead of the hood. Then they failed to close it back. Secondly for some reason they took out the cupholder and while it may seem foolproof they put it back in backwards. Lastly they put in the head unit and left the surround not fully locked in place.

So the old saying if you want it done right you have to do it yourself still stands true. That brings me to the next question. Whats the process to remove the trim piece around the radio so i can put it back on right? I have the feeling i would bebeter off to fix this on my own. I also had to normalize the windows and sunroof but that was another simple fix.

Also with the non-JBL head unit

I don't have the JBL head unit but I noticed the same problem a few times after letting my 4Runner bake in the sun all day long last summer. It didn't happen at all over the winter but now this past week that it has gotten warm out again, it's happened twice in the last 3 days. When I get in and turn it on, the radio will beep, the screen stays blank, and it'll eject a CD. If you pull out the CD it will continue to eject the next one, pull it out... it'll eject the next, etc. If you don't pull out the ejected CD it'll just sit there. After the AC has been on for a minute or two I'm able to turn on the CD player but the display is either scrambled (random characters on the screen) or displays only partial text. If I turn the truck off completely, then turn it back on it'll work fine. Unfortunately I'm out of the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty.
