Agree...in addition, make sure that your dealer has the LATEST Lexus TSB...previous TSBs did NOT solve the problem.

I made an appt for Saturday to have them "diagnose" the problem. Figured I need to get the ball rolling one way or another.

Here's copies of the Lexus TSB for anyone who wants to print and take them to Toyota...

Thanks, 4-RunnerRon but their basic position is until they get their own TSB they don't give a rat's a** about what Lexus has done.

Yeah, Toyota dealeships are NOT getting paid unless Toyota issues a TSB for the 4runner.
Has anyone tried to BUY the parts and pay them to install it??

Has anyone noticed a connection between the clunk and the air conditioner??
I've started watching the tach after I stop at a red light, and I've noticed that the clunk is connected to a sudden change in RPM, and I think that's caused by the A/C compressor switching on and off.
Those of you not experiencing the clunk - could your A/C be off?
Or, has anyone noticed this problem is more prevalent in the summer?
I know that in the past Toyota has cycled the compressor on and off while stopped with the auto trans in "D" in order to prevent the engine from overheating. Years ago, I'd put the trans in "P" if I had to sit somewhere for a while in order to keep the A/C going.

Yes my clunk is more pronounced with the AC on and it is indeed from the AC compressor cycling. With the air conditioner off, it will still clunk but is much softer and not as noticeable. Bottom line is it still shouldn't clunk or all drivelines would do it to some degree.

Has anyone priced the parts? I hate to buy the parts and have them installed if some people are getting them fixed under warranty. If we can get some people to get theirs fixed with the new parts, maybe we can get some legal legs to stand on and get all our of 4Runners fixed. I am going to take it back until it is 3 times and still not fixed then start lemon law proceedings. I won't get a new truck or buy back but I will get a settlement like I did with my GTO and then I will buy the parts and have them installed or trade the stupid thing on a Honda.

"What if they Refuse to Repair?
If the dealer refuses to repair your vehicle, you may also have a Lemon Law claim. The manufacturer has given a warranty, which in most circumstances, requires the dealer to do repair work. If the dealer and/or the manufacturer then refuse to do the repair work, you may have a claim under the Lemon Law, Federal Warranty Law and/or other laws. "
Isn't saying " it is normal" refusing to repair? If it was normal wouldn't most or all 4x4's do it? Lubing it is not repairing especially when there is a defect with the current parts and new replacement parts are available. I am going to give them a chance then talk to an attorney if I can't work it out with the dealer or Toyota. Maybe we can get a class action started. I don't know what that all entails but a consumer law attorney will.

Here is a website of a law firm that deals with class action lawsuits. Like I said, I am going to give them a chance, but after that I am seeking legal help. We should get the TSB as well.

The thud/klunk is really annoying for what would be a great truck.
I have taken the Lexus TSB to the dealer and they say they can't do a thing until Toyota wakes up. So out comes the grease gun to TRY and numb the sensation.
If there is no resolution from toyota soon, I would consider participating in a class action.
BTW, thanks for the Lexus TSB posting!
Cheers

My dealer says the same thing! He looked at the Lexus TSB like it was coated with anthrax! They really didn' read it because he said... oh well.. that's Lexus! I said yes.. they are actually fixing their customers SUV as opposed to this GREASING BS!! They've done it 3 times on mine and it's usually good for less than a 100 miles. If I want to get screwed with my pants on I don't need to do it at my Toyota dealer........ I would also be interested in joining a class action... I'm sick of talking to Toyota dealers that know there is problem and won't fix it properly! SECOND CLASS CITIZENS compared to Lexus customers... OH well..
