FS or FT: 2003 (4th Gen) Chopped/Supercharged V8 4WD Monster - Tallahassee, FL - $30k
So as the title says:
2003 Toyota 4Runner Sport Edition V8 4WD
$30,000 OBO. Also interested in trades. Need something that is fuel-efficient and has a good brand stamped on the front. Probably won't consider much outside of Toyota family. I also have a 99 Corolla with just over 100k that I'm looking to get rid of, so if you want to throw that into the mix with your offer, I'm all ears. It's got a body kit and a turbo. Good, reliable car for a kid or something.
84,XXX miles. Timing done with ALL Toyota parts including WP, Pulleys, and updated design Toyota tensioner about 900 miles ago. All done by a good friend of mine with all the right tools and knowledge who is one of few good, honest Legacy Toyota mechanics in Tallahassee, FL. We didn't do the work at the dealership, so I have no records of that other than the receipts for the parts. I can let you talk to him if you want to ask him any questions, but I can't ask him to talk to every person who is just passing by, so you'd have to be interested and have the funds in hand, ready to go, upon satisfaction of your conversation with him.
The truck is in Tallahassee almost all the time, but I do frequent Orlando and Naples regularly, so I can bring it wherever in Florida and we can work something out if you're somewhere else. I also have a friend who delivers cars with a semi truck around Florida/Georgia/Alabama who I'm sure we can enlist for a fair price.
I change the oil every 5000 miles with a Toyota filter and Castrol EDGE Synthetic oil. Normally I would do 10,000 miles on this oil, but with a supercharger, I figure better to do it early.
It's in good shape for a 10 year old truck. Easily has another 10-20 years left if taken care of. I never planned on selling it, but I have student loans, and college wasn't cheap. The very outdated build thread to get you going in the right direction: kylebacc's 2003 Supercharged/Chopped 4Runner
Known issues include needing the front end rebuilt, because it's been wheeled for its entire life. I have EVERYTHING you could possibly need/want for the job brand new, in boxes with lifetime warranty parts. These parts can go with the truck for the right price, or I can return them to where I got them. Some of this stuff includes new lifetime CV Axles, new Light Racing UCAs with MOOG lifetime brand ball joints already professionally pressed in, new MOOG lower ball joints new OME Nitrocharger shocks for all four corners to match the OME heavy springs that I put under it, a remanufactured lifetime rack and pinion because the current one has lost about an ounce of fluid over the 10 years due to some seepage which according to my mechanic is inevitable on these trucks, new tie rods, new Precision brand hubs/bearings with National brand seals. I can't remember it all, but it's all from O'Reilly Auto Parts and it's all of the highest-quality stuff they sell. No house brand junk. I think it all costed about $2500 or so, and that's with an employee discount. You WILL NOT find these parts cheaper. And again, for the right price, I can have these parts all professionally installed by my Toyota mechanic who works on these trucks and other Toyota models at the Toyota dealership at least 40 hours a week.
The other thing is the rear power sliding window leaks a little bit. It falls into the track on the bottom of the window and used to overflow onto the carpet of the truck. I have since put in a little drain hose that fixes the problem without having to cut the window back out, but I thought you should know about it before you discover it down the road. Because of this, I took the carpet out, so there is just bare dynamat on the floor. My plan was to put wood floors down for a "different" kind of look. You can do what you please with it.
It needs new tires. It currently has 35" Mud Grapplers on it. The fronts are at about 2% and the rears are at about 15-20%. The reason for the difference is I got a little overambitious with the lift height and ground down the outside of the fronts. I have two brand new Mud Grapplers that will go with the sale as long as you don't beat me down too much. Just like everything else, employee discount from tire shop, paid just over $300 per tire, you won't find a better deal. You'll either have to find two more, or I can buy two more and install them with the rest of the front end stuff. Your call. Depends on selling price.
It could use new tint. It's kinda purplish after so long, and is starting to peel up a little on the front windows. Same story, I have a guy, I can do it, we can talk about it if you're serious about buying this thing.
This truck still goes down the highway at 80-90 MPH with just two fingers on the wheel. It's normally very quiet inside the cab, but without the carpet and all the extra insulation, you can hear the tires more than normal right now. Also exacerbating the issue is Mud Grapplers are about the second loudest tire I've ever heard. But they also get the job done when you need them to. I think a Toyo Open Country M/T would be a good-quality replacement if you don't like loud.
If you don't like a lot of attention, don't buy this truck. Seriously.
I love this thing. And I don't honestly want to see it go. But for the right price, I don't, financially, have a choice. I've had offers in the past higher than my asking price; the most recent of which was not too long ago. I've obviously had a zillion lower, too. I realize that not everyone sees the same worth in this truck as some others do. Yes, I do understand that, in the end, it's still just a car. If you must tell me I'm asking too much, I'll deal with it, but you don't need to. I know what some people will pay for this, and as I said, I don't really WANT to sell it as much as I SHOULD sell it. With that being said, don't be afraid to send your offer.
Ask me questions, leave me comments, tell me how sorry you are to see me have to sell the coolest thing I've ever had in my life, tell me you think I'm asking too much, etc etc etc. Ready, set, go.
EDIT:
For clarification: For anything above $22K, the issues on the truck will be resolved before the new owner gets it.
Also: As far as the front end is concerned, the only problems are the upper ball joints are a bit worn (and therefore should be replaced), and the steering rack SEEPS an ounce (give or take) of fluid every 10 years, thus far. Otherwise, it's fine. I'm just not the type to take it all apart 15 times over the next 10 years to replace every little thing that goes wrong.
Lift: The truck has OME heavy springs installed already. The OME shocks are what is not installed (yet).

I work in Tallahassee...how have I never seen this thing before? Would definitely have caught my attention.
Good luck with the sale.

So your asking $30k for a ten year old 4runner with close to 100k miles that has had the back half chopped off of it, needs a front end rebuild, needs tires, and has no carpet on the interior? Right. Where do I sign up?

Aren't all cars that have been "questionably" modified and "wheeled their entire life" worth MSRP 10 years and 100k later. Add to the fact that it needs tint, tires, oh and a front end rebuild! I say a realistic fair price for this pile of problems is somewhere around $3000.

I think I should clarify that the asking price, or close to it, would mean that all the issues would be taken care of, including the front end and tires. As I said, I'm not really into selling it, so if no one wants it, it doesn't hurt my feelings at all

Just the new shocks are not installed. The springs are already in there. There is no 4" spacer. It's closer to 2". For the price, they will be (as I have edited OP to reflect). Thanks!

I'd be interested if it were a 4WD, but thanks!

It's not quite the back half. Maybe the back quarter. For the asking price, these will not be issues for the new owner. I have edited the OP to reflect this clarification. Thanks!

Thanks for your appraisal. I may consider selling the supercharger separately, since they commonly sell, used, for around that price. Then I could also sell the truck, and just about double my money if I play it right!

Kyle,
I'm interested in this truck for a wheeler, I have been dieting to SAS one of mine, but I cannot talk myself into it.
What ballpark would you be in for the truck as is?
I have a built set of Dana 60s with 5.38 gears and lockers that need a home....but 20k plus is pretty high for a well used trail truck, so I was just wondering where you would be without fixing it.

Looks like another one who hasn't learned the basic rule of selling prices on modified vehicles. The simple fact is you will rarely even get close to what you put into your rig. Asking some enormous price just because you're proud of what you've done and want to get rewarded for it is nearly always a pipe dream that leads to constantly lowering your price for weeks or months. You have a fine looking truck, but it's still just a moderately-modified decade-old truck...with bad tires, no carpet, a leaking window, worn-out front end, etc.. Best of luck, friend, but I don't see this happening for anywhere near your asking price (and I mean the $22k, not that absurd $30k). Oh, and those superchargers don't sell for $3000 USED in any neighborhood.

Not quite. I've sold a handful of modified vehicles in my relatively short driving career. I'm not new to selling them for much, much less than the amount put into them. I am however, new to selling my most prized one, and without really wanting to, as I said before, it makes it difficult for me to put a price on it that I, and most other people, would find overpriced, or even absurd. I appreciate the compliments, I think it's a fine looking truck, as well. I realize it's not a show-stopper. But it is something I would only sell if someone were to give me more than it is worth to the average joe, so that I wouldn't feel so bad about losing it. Again, it really will not hurt my feelings if it doesn't sell. Hopefully, and in all likeliness, it wont.
As for your supercharger side note: I've never seen one sell for less than $2500 (used), unless it was just the charger alone, with none of the many other necessary pieces to make it work. I, obviously, have all of those pieces, since it is currently functional on my truck. However, none of that actually matters, since I have no intention of separating the two. I realize you were just pointing something out, for the sake of pointing it out.
Thanks for the replies, everyone

well to end all the arguing discussions, if your not really wanting to sell (which you have made very clear) then why did you even post a thread in the first place wanting to sell it?

As I said in the OP, I'm exploring all options as I finish up this part of my education. If any particular person doesn't care for the price, that's okay. But I'd never know if more people were interested, unless it put it out there
